Here are a few web sites for fishermen, picnickers, boaters or scenic vista fans interested in learning more about Lake Hopatcong from the comfort of their home computer.
Lake Hopatcong was originally two adjacent lakes that were the headwaters of the Musconetcong River. A dam was built in 1750 to provide power for a local iron forge, and the water level increased by approximately 5 feet to combine the two lakes. The lake today resulted from the construction of another dam om 1827.
No major tributaries feed the Lake. The inflow comes from a system of brooks and streams from the mountain area surrounding the lake.

What a name for a lake! But then the other lake is even crazier. How about we submit a request that they change the names to Lake Antoinette and Lake Jennifer??
Lakefront specialist criteria, includes but is definitely not limited to, the ability to properly pronounce both Lakes!
Thanks for stopping by, sweetness!
Just last year we visited Bass River state park and enjoyed it very much. I will happily return
Deanna, thanks for your post! Bass River is further south from where I call home; our family has never visited but winked at it as we drove to the NJ Shore. I'm happy you enjoyed your stay there! The NJ parks commissions really do a beautiful job of maintaining our resources.
I really can get my fill of Jersey here! Thanks, Deanna
