Kauai Commission Approves Biomass Plant

A recent Garden Island article higing hlights an exciting new development on Kauai. A proposed agricultural biomass-to-energy plant moved through the initial stages of approval. Once completed, it will sell energy to Kauai Island Utility, supplying approximately 10% of our island's electrical needs.

In recent coverage of the candidates for the KIUC Board, green energy is taking center stage. It is still years to come before we see any solutions that will impact our monthly bills, but it's encouraging to see some real movement towards utilizing other sources for our electric needs, besides shipping in oil.
