Happy St Patrick's Day to All!
I always grew up thinking my parents were Irish...my parents had Irish brough's, we at Irish food - stews, greens and potatoes and we listened to Irish music all the time. As I got older I realized that my parents were from Newfoundland which was a colony of England at the time. Many of the Irish settled in Newfoundland during the "Potato Famine" in the 1800's because the fare from England was cheaper fare - only 5 pounds passage. Since Newfoundland is a rocky island off the coast of Canada it is fairly isolated, and most of the Irish customs were never lost, but preserved. St Patrick's Day is a great day to celebrate with family and friends. It is a simple fun time with corned beef, cabbage, potatoes, carrots, Irish Soda Bread, good music. I used to play and sing Irish Songs in Irish bars in New York years ago, and at onetime knew over 250 Irish songs music and words! Ellen and I would like to wish you and yours all the best and a very Happy St Patrcik's Day!
