One of the first things that you learn when you live in Florida is .... "Don't park under the Coconut Palms", unless you drive a junker and don't
mind dents in your hood, roof, or trunk. 

I bet many of you were not aware that the Coconut Palm was not originally an American Tree. These palms originated in the South Pacific and eventually spread around the world. Fossil records show evidence of these palms being around 15 million years ago. Only two states in the United States can grow Coconut Palms, Florida & Hawaii.

In Florida, they will not grow north of Fort Myers on the west coast or West Palm Beach on the east coast. This is due to being below the frost line. Some areas north of the frost line will have them growing, but the first frost they experience will kill them.

The Coconut Palm will drop its fruit, the coconut,and it can float for years at sea before washing on land and germinating. Coconuts have been known to wash ashore in Norway, and when the coconut is put in the right condition (temperature, moisture, etc) it will germinate.

A true symbol of Tropical destinations.
Just about everyone recognizes the Coconut Palm as a sign of Paradise.
