Appalachian Technical College may Return to Epworth - North Georgia

Appalachian Technical College may return to Epworth, Georgia. The Fannin County Development Authority is looking into the viability of offering credit classes at the Epworth campus. Appalachian Tech started offering credit courses at the Epworth campus in 2003 but announced last June that they would not offer any more credit classes. Toccoa Falls College will close its Epworth campus in May leaving Fannin County with the Fannin Literacy Action Group as the only educational institution in the Epworth facility.

Dalton State College may put a mini-campus in Ellijay and the president of Appalachian Tech feels that having a campus in Blue Ridge is beneficial and viable. Fannin County Commission Chairman believes Appalachian Tech will be able to recruit enough personnel from Fannin County's fire department and EMS to offer nursing and EMT classes. Involvement from Fannin County's Highschool will be critical to making this work.

Appalachian Tech is currently trying to obtain accreditation for the entire system from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). It may be mid-summer of fall before they get accreditation. The Appalachian Mountain Regional Campus Council President is very supportive of Appalachian Tech offering credit courses at the Epworth campus. The council wants to see college level courses taught.

Hi Donna, that is great news. The local high school must love the idea.

Keith & Robin:  I hope they start offering classes there again.  The location was very helpful to many people.  I wish they could expand their course offerings but maybe that will come in time.

Hi Donna-This is great news. Thanks for keeping us updated and always doing a great job! You rock girl!

Patty:  I would like to try the restaurant out sometime.  Maybe you and I can have lunch there one day soon.  Thank you for your comment.
