Photographs and Memories

This past Saturday Darcy and I travelled to my Uncle's funeral.  I blogged over a month ago about his passing.  He had lived the last 20 years of his life in Australia.  It was kind of surreal, normally when someone dies you have the funeral while the shock of their passing is still fresh.  My Aunt, decided to bring my Uncle back to the small town where he was born and bury him along side his parents and other family members. 

She decided that she would wait until the weather warmed up and the snow was mostly gone before having the graveside service.  Hence the time between his passing and the burial.  It gave time for things to settle, the sting of the loss is still there just not as sharp.

The town where my Uncles and Father were raised is a small town in Southern Utah called Torrey.  It is just outside of Capitol Reef National Park, it is my second home regardless of where I am living.  It is, in my humble opinion, the most beautiful place that I have ever been.

My Grandmothers home was just through the lot, behind and a little to the right of the old school house.  The beauty of the surroundings and the flood of memories of a childhood spent running, and hiking with my dad and my Uncles left me thinking.  How often we get too busy to stop and enjoy what we are doing and who we are doing it with. 

We spend a lot of time working, (as we should), but do we really enjoy ourselves while doing it.  When it comes our time to be eulogized, will they say this was a person who enjoyed life, or will they say that this person died full of life, because he never lived a day while he was alive.  I am lucky, admitting my bias, I will say that I have the greatest family on earth!   I hope that I can show them that I know that!

I guess what I am trying to say is: it's great to make a good living, just don't forget to live in the process of making that living!  Have a great week!  Here are a couple more photos of the area around Torrey.
