When I first discovered Active Rain, I saw all these picture on posts. Some of them you could tell were "stock" photos, or they were cartoon in nature. And I read where you should have your camera with you all the time, you never know when you might find a great picture that could be the source of a blog!
So, this morning, I was downloading the pictures from my digital camera to my laptop, and I realized....wow, I've already built up quite a library of photos! I'm doing it partly because Midtown Atlanta is changing SO fast, that you forget what was there a couple years ago! Take these two pictures...the far left is 1010Midtown as it was coming up, and the other is close to topping out! Amazing!
I don't know how many of you out there in AR Land have ever been to Atlanta (and changing planes at Hartsfield Jackson Int' Airport DOES NOT count!) but it's a pretty cool city. We seem to make the news alot lately about our traffic...and true...it's getting to be challenging! For those of us that work in the condominium markets of Midtown and Buckhead, it just makes our marketplace, that much better since you can live intown, and not have the hour+ commute each way! UGH!
Anyway, I thought I'd just share a few pictures to show you where The Thom And Ray Team hangout! Enjoy!
Atlanta's Backstreet, one of only 3 places in the U.S that was a 24-Hour club (oh I remember it well and miss it as well....)
Made way for progress, and was replaced by Viewpoint!
But Midtown still has the charm it once had, as you can see from St. Marks Methodist Church!
And lastly, here is a "time wharp" of two pictures that really tell it all!

1968 -- to today! Wow! We've Come Along Way Baby!!

Fabulous pictures and a sign of the times. THINGS ARE GOOD OUT THERE!! I see the same images in downtown West Palm Beach and Miami. The growth is there, too! Thanks.
Or how about a before and after Fulton County Stadium? That was dramatic difference AND what a demo that was as it all collapsed in on itself. What was that, about 1998?
Great photos Thom. I especially like the "time wharp" photo.
It's funny how carrying your camera around becomes a habit after awhile! It certainly looks like Atlanta is growing and prospering!
Thom, awesome photos, thanks for sharing. It sure is changing, looks like daily.
Thom, they are amazing. I need to keep my carmera with me more often to get some great shots like this.
Lived in Atlanta some time back, the traffic has always been terrible, still miss the shopping, nightlife and restraunts, Atlanta has something for everyone. cool pics of how the city is changing,
Love the 1968 comparison photo. But you are right, photos are great - it seems to be what blog readers seem to enjoy most.
It seems like photos keep people reading and add some visual interest to blog posts. I really like seeing pictures of what's going on in other cities, and these photos were fun to look at. The last time I was in Atlanta was over 15 years ago!
Very cool pics. I am just amazed at the outstanding quality these digital camers can capture . Looks like a city on the move !
Wow, those are really interesting pictures. It makes me want to take pictures of new developments being built.
Hi Thom - I've learned to have my camera with me all the time as well. I love the pictures you shared in this post, especially the 1968 to today - wow, what changes, huh?
Ann
Thom--Wow...Atlanta sure has come a long way...I have only flown through GA on the way to FL. Your photos tell the story. Good thing you decided to snap a few pics of your own to share!
I'm not even going to try and address everyone by name...let's just say...ya made my day with all your comments! I've got a whole series coming in the future. Stay tuned! You're gonna love it!
Great pics Thom...I also love "timeline pics". Here's my 1974 / 2005 Real Estate pics. Same house...but the body sure did change LOL
Enjoyed your photos--it's been awhile since I've been to Atlanta but one thing I haven't forgotten is those highways!
impressive pics. thanks that looked really cool.
Great pictures. I have to start doing more shots of my areas. Thanks for reminding me
Thom. I've been here 19 years, and the changes have been incredible. I used to work at a photo studio at 1105 P'Tree... then it became a parking lot for Club Anytime... I think there is a high-rise going in there.
It does become quite addicting carrying your camera around all the time. Your city looks like my city. Who says we are in a recession. I really like David's before and after. Too cool. Thanks for the post. Terrie
Those are great photos Thom. They really help tell a story. I don't use my camera enough.
I've become a photography hound. I love taking pictures of everything I can find of interest. I've lived in the same area my entire life, and never really appreciated half of it until I started seeing everything through the camera lens =)
Thanks for the photos. Always nice to see time line shots. Best of luck in your market.
Very nice. I loved the pictures. It's amazing when you look at older pictures how much an area can change!
Indeed! All I have to do is look at my personal pictures of about 10 years ago to realize that! Lucky for me and the path I put myself on, I look 210% better than I did 10 years ago! Yippie!
Thom, awesome pictures! I will have to carry my camera around in my purse to snag some cool photos like these. Thank you for sharing!
Thom~Look at you! This is fantastic. Sure I go MIA and you jump in full force and knock everybody off their socks. I hope you are doing well and have a fabulous week.
Thom,
Way to go guy! Good job and great photos!
Great pictures Thom! Thank you for sharing. I especially like the time change pictures. Atlanta is really a beautiful city. I feel lucky to only live 30 minutes away. I get so upset when I hear of people who just live 30 miles away who have never even been to Atlanta.
I have lived in Atlanta for 32 years and I have NEVER been on the interstate where I didn't see those dang orange barrels.... I decided a long time ago that Atlanta must have got a great deal on them and bought them in bulk.... They have no where to store them so they just leave them out on the interstate to confuse people.
Love the pictures.... Love my city.
Ursula....I'm sorry, you did't get the memo! Those are the new state monument! LOL!!
Mary and Michelle...no matter where you go in Atlanta, it's changing.
Cynthia, Julee and Carlie.....yep...that's why we gotta have the camera. But my digital is older, so it's time for an upgrade to a leaner, meaner photo machine!
Thom - Thanks for sharing the photos of your great city. When flying through I was always so surprised to see Atlanta in the middle of all those beautiful trees. We had a chance to visit a couple of years ago, and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
