And I thought RE sales were bad in Florida...Well, I've been in PA for just over 5 day's now and I cannot believe how may homes are for sale in my parent's township. My parent's built there home before I was born and have lived there since. They have continuously remodeled and updated the home and it's lovely and I enjoy being here. HOWEVER, I was shocked to drive around my old neighborhood and see just how many homes here in PA are for sale. Perhap's it's because in Florida, there are sky high condo's, very little land, and a different terrain than here in PA. Just within 4 blocks of my parent's home (there are about 4 homes per block with about 1/2 acre of land with each home), 50% are for sale. Many are for sale due to the age of the owner's other's due to relocations. One good thing is that the neighborhood is in fine condition. The owner's have kept their homes in great shape and the recent sales prices are quite adequate for this neighborhood. I'm amazed how friendly everyone is, new and old neighbor's. My parent's (if they were to sell their home today) would make a profit of 225% on a resale. Not a bad investment. Great lesson learned here....I knew the market was bad all over MOST of the US, but to be familiar with a different area than I usually sell and to see all the for sale sign's right "in my old own back yard" - was, well, sad, to say the least...fond memories, from the past, you know they won't last, but you remember when it was - well a "blast"! When you go home, how do you view your old neighborhood, or your parent's current neighborhood?
