New Home Building Permits January-April 2008: El Paso County, Colorado Springs

New homes for sale in Colorado Springs have slowed down since the boom of the last few years. The biggest change that we have seen in the new home market is the drop in ‘inventory homes' - meaning: if you want to buy a new home, you will need to ‘dirt start' it. Building homes before they are purchased is too big of a risk for Colorado Springs home builders.

Here is a look at some of the busiest builders in El Paso County - to include the Colorado Springs, Monument, Falcon/Peyton and Fountain real estate markets, and how many building permits were pulled from January - April of 2008:

Campbell Homes 14
Capital Pacific Homes 15
Challenger Homes 20
Classic Homes (local) 59
D.R. Horton 16
Goetzmann Custom Homes (local) 6
Hallmark Building Co. (local) 7
John Laing Homes 6

Total of All Building Permits:
(to include those not mentioned here)
493

(Information gathered from the Pikes Peak Regional Building District website.)

From January-April of 2005, there were a grand total of 2,331 building permits pulled for single family homes in El Paso County. Yes. Building permits are down. WAY down.

Maybe the slow down in building will allow the city to catch up building the infrasctructure that we so need in our area. Better roads. Better intersections. Better lighting...

Great info Mariana, I can tell from your graph the permits are substantially lower compared to previous years.  I think the slow down is a very good thing!!  Very informative.
