Community Service Day 2008 ~ Every year Windermere Real Estate closes all of their offices on the third Friday in June to give back to the communities we serve. Each office takes on a project in the community where all of their associates participate from 8 AM to 5 PM.
This year our office Windermere Welcome Home will be volunteering it's time at Shepherd's Gate, a non-profit organization in Livermore, focused on rebuilding the lives of battered and homeless women and their children. Shepherd's Gate provides services and programs to anyone regardless of race, age, religion, color, creed, etc. As of 2006, Shepherd's Gate has helped over 8000 battered & homeless women and their children who came from abusive relationships, addictions, loss of financial support and other factors.
Each of Shepherd's Gate's two Residence Halls in Livermore provides transitional housing for up to 32 women and children at a time. Both of these shelters provide a home-like atmosphere for the women and children who live there. Women and children stay anywhere from 30 days to 6 months.
For more information or if you are wishing to participate, volunteer or donate to this event, please call me (Pam Winterbauer) at 925 824-4878 or email me at winterpam@windermere.com.

That's great, Pam. Our office doesn't do the same, but we all volunteer or do something individually, and I do it on an ongoing basis; whether it's fundraising for the local high school, for hot lunch programmes, or for money for transit tickets for the kids who can't afford it; or volunteer time, give books, toiletry items, etc., to the women's shelter; it is a great feeling, and something we should all do on a regular basis. Keep up the good work.
Sylvie
That is so important. I believe strongly that we as agents should be involved with the communities that we make our livings in. Our company is a drop off site for the battered women and children's shelter.
What a wonderful cause! Thank you for bringing it to my attention. Generally my donations and time have been spent with animal shelters, but I guess I need to branch out.
Sylvie & Randy.....giving back to the community is part of the Windermere philosophy. In addition we donate a small part of our commission on each transaction we close.
Vickie.....what is especially nice is community service day fall in the middle of the holidays. Most donations or volunteer come at Christmas, Thanksgiving and Easter. They are so happy to have us on the off season. Last year we had a ball on community servie day.
Vickie.....you are more than welcome to be part of community service day. Just let me know and we will find a place for you.
Pam, the years I spent working for WRE/South, Inc. were some of the best and community service day was very specical! We would spend hours doing the work on that day and then would all hang out together for a huge potluck. Lots of smiles that day!
Hi PAM, such a wonderful thing your company is doing. Frank Howard Allen does the same - very involved in local community in the Northbay; some a company sponsored and some are individual offices. We also have matching grant where a Realtor can donate part of their commission in each closing and the company will match that.
Since we sell houses, giving back is the best way to show that we care about our community!
Jo....I appreciate your sharing.
Sylvia.....I am glad there ore other Real Estate companies that give back to their community.
That is such an awesome thing to do- I would imagine people are very appreciative of this service.
Pam- I agree Community service is so important. Since the nature of our business allows us to set our own schedule, we have time to get out and get involved. Our small hometown office has a City Council person who sits on at least 5 community boards, a Youth First co-ordinator, and I am a Housing and Redevelopement Authority(HRA) commissioner as well as the Friday morning girl at our local Food bank. Good post and a great cause to be involved with.
