I was driving home this afternoon from Page, AZ to Big Water, Utah and there was a storm blowing in. I decided to take five and shoot a couple of photos. The Lake Powell area is truly unique and when the storms blow in, wow.
95% of Lake Powell is in Utah, 5% in Arizona, but the business side is mostly Arizona. The Glen Canyon Dam as well as Wahweap Marina are both on the Arizona side of the line.
I sized these down to about 1/2 of what they were shot at but the clarity still looks good.
The top two photos are in Arizona and the bottom one in Utah. Stateline Marina is the dividing line and is just out of the photo to the right in the bottom picture.
The Lodge is behind the trees. Castle Rock is the large rock on the left. In another two months there will be water over the land to the right of Castle Rock making an easier passage up lake.
As the lake is coming up just under six inches a day right now crews have to wench up the docks and marina so that it stays attached to the land.
The Coves is a great swimming spot!

Good evening Heather - Those are some beautiful shots that you took, you can really see for miles there.
Heather,
These pictures are awesome. I love the red rock in the background and the clouds in the second photo almost look as if they were painted in. Thanks for sharing.
Pam - Thanks! I took a few more but have not yet got them downloaded. Navajo Mountain is a local landmark around here - it is 50 miles as the crow flies from where I was standing today and yet it feels like you can reach out and touch it.
Michelle - I would have stayed out and taken more photos, but the wind was about to do me in. Stormy days are great for catching the red rock! The second picture had the last of any blue sky - by the time I got the third it was pretty dark.
Heather - would it sound weird if I said that sometimes pictures of the west almost make my eyes hurt. They are just so breathtaking - they almost look unreal to me.
Nice photos... have you put them on Localism?
Gorgeous.......wish I were there...:)
Maureen - No, does not sound weird at all. I feel that way just driving to the store most of the time
Konnie - I know a good travel agent :-)
I posted the post to localism but will put the photos up before I call it a night. Thanks!
What a beautiful scene. We (Americians) are so fortunate to have such a variety of breathtaking landscapes in out own backyards. Fantastic Shots, thanks for sharing.
Doug ~ We are lucky for sure! We have a huge amount of senic areas within 2.5 hours of here ~ more to come
You managed to take some beautiful pictures. The second photo almost look like a painting.
Kathy - Thanks! There is a shot I have yet to get, mostly because I am not a morning person. On the way to Page, AZ about five miles from there, in the morning, the way the sun shines on the buttes makes them look transparent. Someday I'll jump up and go get that one LOL
I'll bet it's beautiful! We were in Sedona a few years ago and were amazed at how beautiful it was. Monument Valley was more spectacular than any picture could portray. I'm finding that now that I'm semi-reited I'm not up and running as early as I once was.
Heather, what beautiful photo's you captured! You live in an absolutely beautiful area and I'm glad we've been able to go there in person, the landscape is truly amazing. Thanks for sharing !
Kathy ~ that is funny. I am so NOT a morning person. I know the picture is there to be taken but I've not done it, mostly because mornings and I are not good friends (it's 2:54 in the a.m. right now)
Debbie - I truly love it here. I can go elsewhere for awhile, but then the desert starts calling, and home I come.
Gorgeous photos!
Penny ~ Thank you! I am learning....
Breathtaking!
Thank you!
I made this a featured post, so other members can enjoy these.
