"Plant A Wish" and support native reforestation projects on Maui

Baldwin Beach Park Paia Maui HI

You can help plant a tree on Maui...

A Maui couple has started a business that promotes a greener and healthier Maui environment. They created "Plant A Wish" to encourage visitors and residents to take a more active role in planting trees and helping to re-establish native forest species here on the island. Participants can buy a native tree and sponsor it to be planted, along with wishes that are buried in the soil at the time of planting.

On Earth day, April 20th, over 100 wishes were written on biodegradable paper to be planted with a young coconut tree that is being installed today in Paia. The tree planting ceremony today takes place at Baldwin Beach Park, at 2:00 pm. Everyone is welcome to attend, and include their own wishes for a brighter future.

The Permaculture Group and "Plant a Wish" is the project of Joseph Imhoff and Sara Tekula, who were married on Maui last year. At their wedding they planted a koa tree, and guests were invited to add their wishes at that time. That little tree is now thriving by the way.

To order a tree through the Plant A Wish program, call Imhoff at (808) 250-1469 or e-mail him... mailto:proudtobuylocal@gmail.com

Planting trees is a great way to help our environment. My brother, Tom has started a company called Song Forrest where you download songs and the company plants a tree for each song downloaded. It is in the beginning stages, but I thought of him when I read your blog.

Go to www.songforest.com  - remember it is in the beginning stages, but maybe the couple and my brother could connect on ideas and team up.

Brian - your brother is going to be very busy!  That's a great idea.... imagine... a forest of songs.  I am going to check that out.  Thanks!

What a nice idea.  I haven't been to Maui in 15 years, but I have great memories.  My friend David Futch lives there (I think he used to be w/JimSanders). My last few trips were to Kauai & the big island.  You sure are lucky to live & work in such a beautiful place! I'll be sure to email Imhoff and get a tree planted!

Colleen - Yes, Dave used to be with us and it was a pleasure working with him.  He's now with Century 21 All Islands... and I think you might find him on here too.

Sara & Joe - Wow, thanks for stopping by and commenting.  Good luck with the planting today - I bet there will be a good crowd.  I'll be staying home and enjoying a day off, and a BBQ with friends this evening.

Great program! What a great idea and a good way to re-establish native forest species on Maui!

Hi Elaine - I think it's worth looking into.  I know we like to grow lots of edibles, and native species when we can.

Georgina - this is such a wonderful post!!! Trees are, in my humble opinion, the most magnificent creations of Mother Nature!!! To have them planted with wishes is absolutely inspiring!!! I see such positive changes going on all around! Thanks for this post! It made my day!

Hi BJ - well I'm so happy to make your day!  Feel free to contact the organization and see what you can do to help.
