I have had this topic cooking for months, but it just won't come together. Perhaps it is not supposed to be TOGETHER!
Just about one year ago, my husband, Richard, became a consultant and specialist for a program in two counties of Missouri for the construction of 10 homes using strawbale walls.
He had been a masterful builder for years, building log homes in Wyoming. There they utilized a waste product-- standing dead timber - for the logs, had their own small mill and developed a houselog that was beautiful, environmentally sound and very popular.
Richard quickly became converted to strawbale construction. We have a 25 acre parcel in Wright County which will be the site of a strawbale home when his project is finished and he has time to build.
The current project is focused on Douglas and Wright County, Missouri. There is some more information, plus photos at Cardinal Bluff He has worked with some local real estate agents to help people get the land they need for their strawbale house.
I love the grid and dsl and all my tech tools. I guess we could be described as passive solar fanatics, plus dirt makers with the nightcrawlers.

JudyAnn, there is an extra "M" in the web address and it will not work. Here is the link
Thank you for catching that. I am going to have to tattoo a reminder to check links to my hand!
Thanks JudyAnn and Gary! Love the ideal of strawbale construction. What great insulation!
JudyAnn... I LOVE the "picture big bricks" concept. Can you post more links to strawbale construction and the benefits?
Yes, Jeff. I'm 'cooking' on the idea. We have learned so much this year.
This is something I never heard of. Let us know how this progresses. Do you think it would work in NH with the cold we get here?
Oh yes, Some of the most successful strawbale homes have been in the NE. The walls stop cold and heat both. More about this coming up.
