Shelter Cove is ideal for those people moving to Florence Oregon that are looking for a beautiful gated community with upscale homes, close to the Siuslaw River and the Ocean. Located just west of Rhododendron many of the homes are situated on the banks of the Siuslaw River looking west across the River some even have a view of the Ocean beyond the dunes on the South Jetty.
Shelter Cove has the advantage of currently being the last Subdivision heading north on Rhododendron located in the Florence City limits. Why is that an advantage? In addition to all the city services, areas north of Shelter Cove like the new gated community of Fawn Ridge and many others are currently in the City of Florence's sights for annexation.
Of course if the City annexes that part of Lane County the idea is to bring City Water and Sewer to the area. Many homeowners are up in arms over the proposed annexation because it will cost every homeowner affected for their portion of the services. The area already has a good water supply (Haceta Water) and if they are already living there they have a septic system, so to many it is something they don't want to see this change. Developers in the area would like to see City services brought in to avoid the permitting and costs of a Septic System, in addition to the space required for the system.
So as you head north on Rhododendron keep in mind that Shelter Cove is in the City of Florence and beyond that you are in Lane County which will more than likely be annexed by the City costing each homeowner for their portion of services. In my opinion that adds a little extra value to Shelter Cove as you look for your next home.

Dennis, I have fond memories of Florence as a kid. We had family friends who lived in an old house. We kids turned the upstairs wooden floor into a skating rink with liquid detergent. Fun stuff.
The good ol days. I'm sure your parents were impressed. lol
lol. THey still talk about it. Our parents are still best friends and they are constantly prankes on each other so it fit in pretty well.
