How To Destroy Your Driveway Without Trying

Back

a couple of winters ago,

I DESTROYED the concrete in my driveway!!

The surface became pitted and later flaked off from an application of salt I used only one time.

I hired someone to seal and save it...

that hasn't worked.

Also, I paid him in advance to cut some lines

in it so it wouldn't crack.

He took the money

and never came back to do the work.

(Old story ...but still a good one.

My Dad used to call those type of people "Jackleg")

So since then it has bugged me

and I will eventually redo my new 3 year old driveway.

There's always something to work on

when you are a new homeowner.

Anyway, as I was doing a little research

I ran across this article on decorative concrete...

10 Driveway Design Ideas

There are also some links for interior concrete floors, countertops and wall finishes there.

Salt is tough on concrete (as you've already learned).  I'm sorry for the trouble you are having!

I took your driveway post and turned it into a whole post on driveways at Shak & Jill.  Thanks for the inspiration!  I lived in the Hidden Springs subdivision on Wood Ridge Rd. (between Clays Mill & Boston Rd.).  How are home sales in Lexington these days?

Sorry for the trouble you are having with your driveway, but hopefully your post will keep others from doing the same.

My sister did the same thing in Denver this last winter but it was their sidewalk they ruined.  They are now getting ready to put their house on the market and my brother in law is having to deal with fixing the sidewalk.  From your experience I guess it is good he is going to do it himself.

Lizette, I did the same thing, all the way down my walkway and around to the car.  My sidewalk was only three years old as well and is all pitted and broken.  We had two severe ice storms where it just didn't go away and I didn't want to fall....I'm never sure how to negotiate getting around in ICE!  Thanks for the post.

Ross - Thanks for all the sympathy! I wish it could fix my concrete.

Kathy- I loved your blog! Keep up the good work!

Debi - I can only hope that others will read this and learn from my mistake.

Marchel - Maybe the wonderful house features will keep their eyes off how bad the sidewalk is!

Carole - We did the same thing at the same time...we must be related somehow!

Try to Clean it up with acid. Once you let it soak in wash it off and let dry. Know you can make the repair with out it flaking off

What a bummer, that's what we were afraid of and why we didn't go with concrete. I hope Pete's suggestion works.

Lizette, there is something very weird here on all of this, when you want to destroy something you can not, when you do not want it , you can :)  why ? I always ask this question hahaha   great photo ! :)

Peter - I'm not sure if I can do that. It has had a sealer applied...although it is one season past that and it looks like this.

Debbie - I haven't tried that yet. I'm not comfortable with doing it myself.

Ray - You always have the right attitude...altitude? lol

Lizette, you funny girl, I am checking always what you write,   ALWAYS !!!!!!!!!!!!!  even when you think that I will not get over your blog again ! hahaha

Ray, I'm on to you. See .I even know what you are doing when I take a vacation day too!
