Tonight is a big night for Star watchers in Chandler. Chandler's Environmental Education Center are hosting together with East Valley Astronomy Club a 'Star Party' at the Veterans Oasis Park (Lindsay/ Chandler Heights).

The party is from 6:30 to 9pm and there is no charge. A number of telescopes will be set up and they will be manned by Astronomy club members.

The city of Chandler has put out for bid all their garbage collections. The contract comprises all of Chandlers waste services: solid waste collection, recycling and transfer station operation.
Chandler is the only major Valley city to use private companies rather than municipal trucks and workers for hauling away their trash.
The City has received 7competing offers and estimate that they can make a decision in early spring 2010.
Let's hope that this will keep rates low for residents.

$8,000 Tax Credits weigh in on October home sales

The end of the federal tax credit program for first time home buyers seems to have been the catalyst for high October home sales in metro Phoenix.
The program terminates at the end of November and is most likely the reason why there was an unseasonable increase in home sales from September (8,219) to October (8,275). Sales in October 2008 were 5,335.
Most of the activity was in the $100,000 to $150,000 range where first time home buyers are a large component.
In the meanwhile votes in the Senate and the House are expected to extend and expand the program for at least an additional 6 months.
