Prep : 15 minutes Cook Time: 30-45 Minutes
You will need:
Directions:
Melt the stick of butter in a large pot over medium heat. Add the onions, garlic, bay leaves, thyme, and salt and pepper and cook until the onions are very soft and caramelized, about 25 minutes. Add the wine, bring to a boil, reduce the heat and simmer until the wine has evaporated and the onions are dry, about 5 minutes. Discard the bay leaves and thyme sprigs. Dust the onions with the flour and give them a stir. Turn the heat down to medium low so the flour doesn't burn, and cook for 10 minutes. Now add the beef broth, bring the soup back to a simmer, and cook for 10 minutes. Season, to taste.
When you're ready to eat, preheat the broiler. Arrange the french bread on a baking sheet in a single layer. Sprinkle the slices with the Gruyere and broil until bubbly and golden brown, 3 to 5 minutes.
Ladle the soup in bowls and float several of the Gruyere croutons on top.
Alternative method: Ladle the soup into bowls, top each with 2 slices of bread and top with cheese. Put the bowls into the oven to toast the bread and melt the cheese.
I hope you enjoy this one!

Hello, many of my piers wonder how in the heck I can post so many recipes when I work 90 hours a week in REO. Well, the fact is I do work alot.....but for 3 hours every Sunday I quit the machine and I become a real actual person. I COOK! I cook for my team, my office, my family, my neighbors and those who struggle to feed their families. After all......you can only be a machine so many hours a week. I am very good at what I do and what I do it REO full time. I've sold hundreds of REO assets. One home at a time we are repairing this country and providing the American Dream of home ownership to new home owners. ONE HOME AT A TIME!
I am writing a cookbook called "Sunday Supper" and I will be including all the great recipes that you see me post here on ActiveRain. When the cookbook is released in a year or so... All proceeds will go to a charity to help homeless children and families in America who suffer from this foreclosure crisis. I will keep you all posted on it. In the mean time enjoy the recipes and Keep a positive attitude... Attitude is everything.
