Real Estate has always been a great investment, with many fortunes having been built on real estate by the Astor's, Kennedy's, Helmsley, Trumps, just to name the big names.

One commanality among these investors, including Warren Buffet, is they take advantage of markets by understanding them, and buying when prices are low.

It's difficult to relate to that mindset because most homeowners buy to live in their home a minimum of 5 to 10 years. And today the interest rates are almost at a historical low, below 5% for primary residence mortgages.

Each person must determine if buying a home now is right for them. It's a long term financial decision that should be made afer giving much thought.

House of Refuge Charity Supported by Val Vista Lakes Nifty Fifty's video by Captain Bill Travis

House of Refuge

The House of Refuge is a wonderful charity that cares for people who have become indigent and need support getting back on their feet and into the workforce.

The House of Refuge is supported by Grants, Volunteers and Donations from the public.

They have 88 housing units (original base housing) on Williams Field in Mesa AZ, near Williams Field Rd and Power Rd. They utilize 4 units for offices and storage of donated supplies.

They have 84 units available to house the residents in need.

It is a work program. The residents receiving help must either work or go to school for 28 hours per week.

The organization provides various classes to help people get on their feet, teaching them about finances and the importance of a good credit score. They have a computer lab section, and a room for teaching how to interview for jobs using videoed mock interviews.

One unique thing about this organization is the very friendly staff, how appreciative they are of your donations, and the motivation and enthusiasm they have for what they're doing.

When you go there with donations of clothing, school supplies, toiletries, toys, and other items they may need, you feel like you are going to visit with old friends and family. You are made to feel welcome.

Each month our Nifty Fifty Club from Val Vista Lakes collects and delivers donations to the House of Refuge at Williams Field, Mesa AZ.

In July we have "Christmas in July" where we take mostly school supplies to help the kids prepare for school.

Flo Murphy chairs our Charity Committee. Flo, her husband Bo, and I delivered two car loads of needed items last week. I had my video camera along and we took some impromptu video interviews. They are in the video below.

Val Vista Lakes Gilbert AZ Clubhouse

Val Vista Lakes in Gilbert AZ is one of the top communities in the Phoenix area. Everyone familiar with Val Vista Lakes knows about the four beautiful lakes with beautiful custom waterfront homes, and the spectacular Clubhouse with all the amenities.

Few people realize that Val Vista Lakes is a multi-generation community with residents ranging from age one and less to over age 80.

The great thing about Val Vista Lakes is that it has activities for all ages; swimming teams for youngsters, card games, tennis, exercise rooms, for the older generations.

Serveral days a week the elderly ladies use the Val Vista Lakes Jr. Olympic Swimming Pool for water aerobics.

Val Vista Lakes Nifty Fifties is a club for residents who have reached age 50. They provide recreational, educational and enteraining activities for members. There are several types of card games, poker, bridge, bunko, plus bowling, field trips and dinner/lunch out.

Nifty FiftiesThis year, my wife and I are Co-Presidents of the Val Vista Lakes Nifty Fifties, and we really enjoy working with the other officers and volunteers who help make the Nifty Fifties successful. Members of this club do a lot of volunteering for our community.

The club meets for monthly Pot Luck Dinners at the clubhouse. During the summer, many Snowbird members have flown north to escape the summer heat, we use the 75 person capacity West Wing, with it's fantastic view of the clubhouse grounds.

Beginning October when Snowbird members fly back to escape harsh northern winters, we use the larger 200 person Banquet Room.

We are revenue conscious, and if management books a revenue event on our meeting night, we gladly move over to the West Wing.

Each month we bring donations for our charrity, the House of Refuge at Williams Field, Mesa AZ. This is a charity for homeless families who go there with only the clothes on their back. The charity supports these families for two years to get them on their feet.

They tell us what supplies they need, and we donate them.

In July we have "Christmas in July" where we take mostly school supplies to help get kids prepare for school. We also take what the charity tells us they need.

I was recently having dinner with a friend of mine named Tom Watkins.  He is a New Home Specialist for Meritage at Stratland Estates in Gilbert, Arizona.  He was telling me about all the really cool energy saving features that Meritage at Stratland Estates offers.  It sounded really cool so I told my wife about it.

Val Vista Lakes Gilbert AZ Sub Community La Jolla Village

La Jolla Village is a sub community of the beautiful lake sub community of Val Vista Lakes, which is located in north central Gilbert AZ at Baseline and Val Vista Drive, near the highway 202.

La Jolla Village is located on the west side of Val Vista Lakes Drive, and it has a total of 86 homes.

None of these homes are waterfront homes. However, they do have access to the lake and access to all the Val Vista Lakes Clubhouse amenities.

As you drive down the streets of the non gated community of La Jolla, you can see that the homes and yards are well taken care of, just like homes in the other 23 Val Vista Lakes sub communities.
