Winter Olympics Opening Ceremonies party at Hohokam Stadium

Mayor Scott Smith is inviting Mesa residents to attend a free Winter Olympics Opening Ceremonies party Friday, Feb. 12 at Hohokam Stadium, 1235 N. Center St., at 6:30 p.m.

The party, hosted by Mesa Sister Cities, will include the ceremonies in Vancouver, British Columbia on a big screen and a videotaped welcome from Mayor Derek Corrigan from Burnaby, British Columbia, one of Mesa's five Sister Cities, which is part of the Greater Vancouver region.

The event will also feature two retired members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Bob Strawson and Dennis Levy, who will be in uniform and Jack VanNorman, who carried the torch during the 2010 Olympic Torch Relay.

Refreshments will be available for purchase at the stadium. There will also be live music and games. In addition, there will be several raffle items including the Vancouver 2010 Red Mittens, which match those worn by the 12,000 torchbearers who have carried the Olympic flame.
