I had a lovely lunch today at Cochise-Geronimo in Desert Mountain. It was a great combination of delicious food and spectacular golf views beneath us. What really put a smile on my face was the impeccable service. It reminded me of what makes Desert Mountain so special. The Desert Mountain Tennis Center is an exceptional facility, recognized as one of the best in the nation. It is called "The Wimbledon of the West". The Tennis Center features a beautiful stadium grass court, five state of the art clay (har-tru) courts, and three hard courts. It is very rare for a Tennis Center to offer play on all 3 court surfaces within the same facility. This is especially true in Arizona.

The Stadium Grass court is an aesthetic work of art, making for a wonderful centerpiece for the entire Sonoran clubhouse. The grass court surface is one of the finest in the world. Most of our clients are very impressed by how immaculate the grass courts always appear. When we show them the Clay courts, usually they will show less enthusiasm. Frankly, the clay courts look gray, dull and odd. You can even see foot prints in the court surface. But that is exactly why I think the clay courts are so cool! The clay Har-Tru courts use a Hydro Court system which is essentially a clay tennis court on top of a controlled water reservoir. The water level is completely level under the court, allowing evaporation and capillary action to provide water to the playing surface evenly. How neat is that? The clay courts provide a softer playing surface. So although they aren't as pretty as the Grass Courts, they are extremely popular with Desert Mountain members. If you haven't played on this type of court, you must try it!
