There are almost three dozen historic districts throughout the City of Phoenix and high concentrations of them are in the downtown and central portion of the city. Roosevelt Historic District has the distinction of having been the first historic district in Phoenix back in September of 1986. The general boundaries for Roosevelt Historic District are from McDowell Road south to Fillmore Street and from 7th Avenue to Central Avenue.
Development began in this district back in 1895, several years before Arizona was even granted statehood. Architecture types range from Craftsman bungalows to Spanish Mediterranean and even Territorial. Aside from the beautiful homes, there are also apartment style properties. I love historic homes, they have such unique architecture and so much history. And it is difficult for me to conceive that this area was the far northern edge of the Phoenix city limits back in the early 20th century. Geographically, Phoenix is very spread out now.
This community is a short distance to many of the downtown Phoenix venues, like US Airways Center, Chase Field, Burton Barr Central Library, and the Phoenix Art Museum. And the community is right down the street from the light rail. There are shops and restaurants around the outer edges of the neighborhood. Some of the residences have been converted to office space and those are dotted throughout the district. The public school districts for this area are Phoenix Elementary District and the Phoenix Union High School District. Want to see what is available for sale in this historic part of Phoenix? Click here! Hard to believe there are a couple of homes under 200k right now for sale in Roosevelt. It's a great time to buy!
