One of my absolute favorite streets in the South Mountain Village is Thunderbird Trail. And within the confines of Thunderbird Trail lies the community known as Thunderbird Country Club Estates. The Vistal Golf Course nearby was originally named Thunderbird Golf Course, and some of the homes offer beautiful golf course views.
For those of you not familiar with the area, Thunderbird Trail runs from Central Avenue to 7th Street. There a few small cul-de-sacs just off Thunderbird Trail and one other street, Kachina Trail, but it is mainly a long, curving road. The homes there are older, a couple built in the late 1950s, a few in the 1960s and the bulk of them built during the 1970s. The houses are on larger lots, at least 10,000 square feet or bigger. For years and years, it was the last community as you headed south into South Mountain Park. The views of South Mountain are breathtaking from Thunderbird Trail, and many of the homes include spectacular views of the city lights. It doesn't seem like you're going up in elevation as you travel south on Central Avenue towards South Mountain Park, but one look towards the north, and you'll be amazed at how much of the city of Phoenix is visible.
Rarely do homes come on the market in this neighborhood. But, as any long time resident of the South Mountain Village will tell you, it is a very coveted area. Even though it is no longer the furthest south since the Mineral Canyon subdivision came along, Thunderbird Country Club Estates is easily one of my favorite areas of the South Mountain Village.
