I was driving west and the sky was just beautiful. I thought about all the wonderful dessert photos I'd seen Mike Jones post and would have loved to stop and take that photo op, but I was headed toward family. Family that I had not seen in four years and my husband hadn't seen in three years and to meet my beautiful first great niece so we snapped a few photos through the windshield of the car moving at about 80 mph and kept going. But we did soak in all the beauty.
A few days after that I was sitting in Starbucks in Chula Vista and went over to Mike's post and commented about how I had enjoyed the sunset just outside of Tucson. I swear I hadn't even moved on to read the next post after hitting the submit button when my phone rang and it was Mike on the other end. "what did mean to drive through his area and not call?" Oooops. So I told Mike I wouldn't do it again. So last Wednesday as we headed home at 6 a.m. I waited and waited as I drove until it was late enough to call, but instead Mike called again. He'd recommended a place just off the interstate and not out of way for lunch. The name was Beyond Bread. And it was a fantastic recommendation. It's at the corner of Oracle and Ina if you get to Tucson you just MUST go there. I had a warm toast sandwich called Maya's market. It was Havarti cheese, basil pesto, tomatoes, roasted red peppers, red onions on a hearty multi-grain bread. I had it for lunch and I didn't eat any dinner that night. In fact, I had to take part of my sandwich with me. I even snacked on my kettle chips as I drove the rest of the afternoon. I don't remember the name of my Donald's sandwich, but it was filled with Italian meats and the bite I took was awesome.
Mike came and joined us for lunch too. His corn chowder looked and smelled wonderful. Which was super sweet of him. We talked about family and photos and cards and friendship. I know that his wife's engagement ring has a Ruby and that she was a tom-boy growing up. That conversation started because he notice my engagement ring is an emerald (my husband is Irish-American and I was born on St. Patrick's day) I loved getting to know more about Mike and his family.
And now I'm gonna share some of the "we took them while driving" photos: Don't laugh.
God can certainly paint a beautiful sky can't he?
