LEED Gold Home Tour 10/23, Tempe, AZ

As Builder Committee Chair for the Residential Green Building Committee, United States Green Building Council (USGBC) AZ Chapter, I'm proud to be a part of this event! USGBCAZ.org

Phoenix, Arizona- The Arizona Chapter Residential Green Building Committee (RGBC) of the U.S. Green Building Council® has organized the Second Annual Green Home Tour, taking place at 8525 S. Terrace Rd. in Tempe, AZ on Sunday, October 23rd, 2011 from 1-5 pm. The goal of the tour is to highlight the effectiveness of the LEED® for HomesTM green building certification program, a nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of green buildings.

Featured on the tour is the home of Megan Kimball and Chris Sar, a dynamic couple looking to make a difference in their neighborhood and the environment. "...When we were remodeling our house, we wanted to make sure that we did everything within reason to make our home as environmentally responsible as we could..." To that end, they made the modifications necessary to bring their home to LEED certification standards. The entire house, including the attic, is sealed with insulation. All the windows and doors are dual-panes with 8525 S Terrace LEED Gold Home Toursome doors having triple pane. Most of the materials that went into the home were sourced locally. Their newly refurbished front yard is both beautiful and water efficient. The couple reduced the amount of lawn area in the front yard from 5,500 SF to a more manageable 1,950 SF with mostly native, low- water use vegetation.

Special guest, Tempe Vice Mayor, Trinity Donovan has confirmed attendance for this event. Culinary food from a truck will be available from Hey Joe! Filipino Street Food. Come hungry for fairly priced, yummy food: http://heyjoetruck.com/
