~ Looking for a meal ~
Not many mammals are as adaptable to their environment as the Coyote. You'll find it from Panama in Central America all the way north to Alaska. Central Park in New York City boasts a population.
Our backyard in the community of Tucson Estates II is a frequent haunt of these singing dogs. This young female wandered up out of the wash (that's arroyo to you Texans) to see what she might find. It took her a few minutes to figure out that she wasn't going to find a meal at the Jones's, and she moved off through the neighbor's yard and back into the wash.
~ Still looking ~
Coyotes are the reason that we limit our pet selection to the fish in our pond. Domestic pets, especially smaller dogs and cats, are no match for a coyote, which sees them as just another couple of items on the menu.
If you're considering a home in the Tucson Mountains, be prepared to share your backyard with those who were here first. This adaptable animal will be one such neighbor.

~ The Day After Christmas, 2010 ~
Looking west from Tucson Mountain Park
Looking west at the glow of the setting sun, I couldn't help but admire the yellows and oranges painting our Tucson skies. This is a magical time of day in Tucson. While the east coast is hunkering down under blizzard conditions, with more than 1,500 flights cancelled today, it was 60 degrees as the sun faded into the west.
Then I turned toward the south, and instead of orange and yellow, the southern sky was painted deep rose. I knew you'd need a break from the snow. Here it is.

EDIT: In the spirit of full disclosure, here's our forecast for the week between Christmas and New Years: (You might not want to schedule your golf game for Wednesday or Thursday...) LOL
(Thanks to REALTOR Doreen McPherson of Tempe in comment #8!)

~ Baboquivari framed by saguaros ~
Tucson Estates II
A view from Tucson Mountain Park
In the far distance, that shark-tooth-shaped mountain peak is Baboquivari. It's located about 60 miles west of Tucson on the Tohono O'odham Indian Nation.
In the mid-ground of the photo is my community, Tucson Estates II. You can see that we're surrounded on three sides by this pristine desert eco-system. Especially now, this is wonderful hiking weather!
The antidote for snow
If the cold and damp are getting to you, you might want to consider a second home here in Arizona. Prices are phenomonal, and rates are still very low. Give me a call! (520) 349-9090

~ December Morning After Rain ~
Golden Gate Mountain in Tucson Mountain Park, Tucson, AZ
December rains set in motion everything the desert needs for a spectacular Spring wildflower show. Nowhere else in these United States have I seen such an expression of joy at the arrival of the rain. We love when it rains.
The combination of rain on the desert floor, early morning sunshine and cool temperatures in the 50s set the stage for the photo above, on the perimeter of our little community, Tucson Estates II.
Of course, we sometimes (not very often) do get snow if cold temps push their way this far south. The snow may last for a long time ~ perhaps several hours ~ before the desert sun melts it away. :)
