South and a bit west from Sidney on Vancouver Island lies the lovely community of Brentwood Bay. Directly on Saanich Inlet north of Victoria, Brentwood Bay is home to the world-famous Butchart Gardens. Brentwood Village offers excellent accommodation, waterfront restaurants, and all amenities, and is also a jumping-off point for kayakers, canoeists and mountain hikers.
Previously named Slugget, after pioneer John Sluggett who settled in the area in 1876, the village of Brentwood Bay was given the rather more appealing name in 1925. Brentwood Village takes its name from the English town of Brentwood in Essex, home town of R.M. Horne-Payne, president of the British Columbia Electric Company in the 1920s.
Currently there are 25 active listings for single family homes ranging from $$439,000 CN to $1,948,000 CN. If you are a boater, it could be a perfect place!

The Halloween Howl in Brentwood Bay is the grown-up answer to a kid’s holiday. It’s that time of year when ghouls and goblins will be hitting the streets. Soon there wil be strange ghost-like things hanging from your neighbor’s tree and you’ll see tombstones popping up on people’s front lawns. What a great reason to put off raking the leaves?!
Don’t let the kids have all the fun this year; get a babysitter for Saturday, October 24th, dig deep in your closet to find an outrageous costume and do some monster mashing at the Halloween Howl in Brentwood Bay.
Shaky Gr
ound will be providing the tunes and their song list is long! Not an oldies band and not a rock band, they’re a party band providing music from every age and genre so come out and “shake your groove thing” – you’ve earned it.
Go see Anne at Genesis Hair Salon on Keating Cross Road for tickets (in the Co-op mall). She’ll fix you up with a couple of tickets or bulk-buy in groups of ten, reserve a table and drag your friends along for a screamin’ good time at the Halloween Howl in Brentwood Bay.
Mark it on your calendar, Saturday, October 24th at 7:30 at the Brentwood Bay Community Hall. All proceeds go to the BC Cancer Foundation, help out a great cause by having a great time, talk about win-win.
