December 22, 2010 what an amazing day! We wanted to give something back to the amazing little community of River Springs in Coquitlam British Columbia where we not do a lot of business but also where we like to do our Real Estate business. We had heard there was an urgent appeal for help from area Food Banks for help.
My team got together and we came up with this great idea to organize a Food Bank Drive for the Coquitlam-Port Coquitlam SHARE Society Food Bank. On Monday we taped a note to every single mailbox in River Springs (500 homes) asking homeowners to expect us and if they were not home to leave a bag with the note attached to it, we would be back on Wednesday morning till early afternoon.

My team mates are my wife Teodora Leaf and my Buyer's Agent Justin Wagner, we also garned the help of our children, Olivia & Madeline Leaf and two of their friends, Kamiko & Kiyomi Hoover.
Surprisingly, we found many more people home then we had expected. The real story was the high number of bags that were left at the door with the note stapled to it. There were some very large donations, large bags, boxes of tin foods, etc.! In 3 hours we had been to every single door in River Springs and filled a van and a SUV with 975 lbs of food!
The people of Coquitlam's River Springs neighborhood are amazingly giving, thank you! thank you! thank you! A very Merry Christmas to all who reside there, the true meaning of Christmas is evident in this Coquitlam neighborhood!

This past Saturday was the big day for the 3rd Annual Gaby Davis Foundation Swap Meet Fundraiser and a perfect day it was. Gaby must have pulled some strings for us up in heaven as the skies parted and the previous weeks worth of rain came to a halt.
The residents of the Coquitlam neighborhood of River Springs came out in mass and supported the Gaby Davis foundation with their usual gusto. The Coquitlam Fire Department did their yearly job of washing the fleet of cars rom the River Springs community and they were joined by mainy other businesses and volunteers who made this event the annual success that it has become and I am delighted to say that the Scott Leaf family was all there to help ot with this amazing cause.
The "Gaby Davis Foundation" was started in memory of Gabrielle Davis who lost her battle with childhood cancer in March 2007. Her brave fight against cancer inspired us to fulfill her wish to help other families fighting this terrible beast.
During Gaby's fight, it was necessary for her father to leave his employment for the course of her 44 week treatment. It was also necessary for Gaby to travel to California for 7 weeks in order to receive specialized radiation treatment for her cancer.
There were many costs that were not covered by insurance and the family were required to carry two households during her time away.
The family was very fortunate to be given a great deal of support during Gaby's treatment but not all families are so lucky. The Davis family met several families who were struggling to keep afloat both financially and emotionally. Many of whom had to be away from home and family for much longer periods of time than they did and had treatment protocols that go on for years.
It is families like these that we would like to assist by relieving some of their financial burden so they can spend time with their sick child instead of worrying about how they are going to get through this fight.
They understand first hand just how precious the gift of time is with our children.
Their goal with this foundation is to offer support and assistance to children with cancer and their families in times of financial need. Gaby wouldn't have wanted it any other way.

Scott Leaf Real Estate Marketing & Associates - Keller Williams Elite Realty is a proud supporter of the Gaby Davis Foundation and it's efforts. Teodora Leaf is an active foundation member, and both her and I (especially her) have helped out in at various events to support this great cause.
Today's BBQ for volunteers hosted by Guy & Tanya Davis was well attended and appreciated by all. Thanks to them for hosting this event along with the Foundation board of directors and a thanks to the River Springs real estate neighbourhood for such great support of the Gaby Davis Foundation.
