Summerland BC is surrounded by farms and orchards. Agricultural roots run deep with a long tradition of cattle ranching and fruit growing. A federal government agricultural research station was established in Summerland BC in 1914 (now the Pacific Agri-Food Research Centre) and many fruit varieties have been developed there. Summerland remains an agricultural community and the tradition continues to evolve with vineyards joining orchards on the sunny slopes. Fresh produce is readily available in season, from markets or U-pick, and local attractions make it easy to enjoy the area's farms and orchards.
