Who's Counting? Smell the Flowers, not the Coffee!

Most people think of Canada as a cold and snowy country. Well, not on Vancouver Island! The Victoria flower count is usually held during the last week of February, but this year it has been postponed to March 18th and lasts until March 23, not because of weather or the budget, but Rob Gialloreto, CEO of Tourism Victoria said the issue was due to the number of hours required by staff, as they were the sole programmer for the count.

Freshly cut daffodils have been sent across North America, for the past 33 years, to announce our Annual Flower Count.

While the rest of Canada and much of the US is still in the depths of cold winter weather, Victoria often enjoys spring temperatures of 10-15° Celsius (up to 60° Fahrenheit).

Not Hawaii, Not Florida, Not Mexico, Not the Med, just Good Old Victoria, BC

Cordova Bay Beach, Victoria, BCI used to be so envious of people who live in hot climates, but as I get older I realise how lucky I am to be living in Victoria, BC . . . our little piece of Paradise.

We may not have the hot sandy beaches that you find in all those other locations, but we have such great beauty here on the west coast of Canada. There are not too many cities where, on a beautiful sunny warm day you can also enjoy the snow-capped views of Mt. Baker and the Olympic Mountains. As Steven Nickens, of Maui says - our beauty is opposite to that of Hawaii's beauty.

Mind you, my wife and I are going to visit Hawaii one of these days, to enjoy the sand and surf and say "Aloha" to Steven.
