It was celebrated today with the 31st running of the GoodLife Fitness Victoria Marathon. Over 14,000 participants ran today--a record turnout. The Men's Marathon saw a new winner--Kenyan Philip Samoei--with a world record time of 2:23:24. James Lander from the US, but now living in Victoria, came in 2nd with a time of 2:23:57.

In the Women's event Catrin Jones, a former Victorian, now living in Switzerland, covered the 26 mile (42.2 km) course won with a time of 2:52:20. Suzanne Evans of New Westminster, BC, a three-time past marathon winner, came in second with a time of 2:53:53.

The Men's 8 km road race was won by Peter Corrigan of Victoria (24:30). Kirsten Sweetland of Victoria won the Women's 8 km road race with a time of 27:39.
