The Fairbanks Shakespeare Theatre has been a part of the Fairbanks community since 1992. What began as a single performance along the banks of the Chena River has become a international touring Shakespeare company. If you have the opportunity to see any of the amazing shows, we would highly recommend doing so. For a small theatre company, the acting and directing is typically outstanding.
Local critic Robert Hannon had this to say about a recent production. "...As in other FST productions, the set designed by Kit Mayer, displays versatility as actors charge or saunter from scene to scene. That’s critical in the play where the action flits from Rome to Alexandria, Sicily to Syria.
Especially grand are the costumes. In this production the time of action lies in the 17th century, but it also encompasses at least two distinct cultures. Costume Designer Claudia Lively achieves a splendid balance between Eastern exoticism and Western elegance, between the ostentatious and the pedestrian. The costumes’ colors and textures are a treat for the eyes.
I was excited when I heard Fairbanks Shakespeare Theatre was mounting a production of “Antony and Cleopatra.” I had never seen it performed, but knew critics called it one of the Bard’s problem plays because of its complexity. In the mood for an evening of Beethoven, Strauss, Brahms or Tchaikofsky? We have the perfect solution. An evening performance by the Fairbanks Syymphony Association. Founded in 1958 the Fairbanks based Association regularly performs both in Fairbanks and other communities throughout the state.
The Arctic Chamber Orchestra has proudly represented Alaska at a Pacific Rim Conference in California, toured the People's Republic of China, Spain and Switzerland. Dr. Eduard Ziberkant is the current conductor, having held that post since Dr. Madeline Schatz's retirement. We have yet to attend a performance where we were anything less than enthralled. If you're looking for a wonderful way to spend a night with your significant other, then please join us and show your support for our home town Symphony.
