Fairbanks Tanana Valley Farmers Market Welcome to the Fairbanks Tanana valley Farmers Market.

Established in the early 70's as a way to develop and promote agriculture, horticulture in Alaska and to provide quality produce products to the public, the Tanana Valley Farmers Market showcases a variety of Alaska Grown products and plants as well as Made in Alaska products. TVFM is the oldest established farmers market in Alaska and the only one located in its own permanent building.

2008 Season Opening Day is May 10, 2008

Market Hours
Wednesday's 11AM - 4PM
Saturday's 9AM - 4PM

With a growing season that extends from April to September, and with a little help from that famous 24 hour sunshine in the summer months, we have an outstanding bumper crop of everything from rhubarb, asparagus, beans, beef, beets, blueberries, broccoli, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, celery, dairy products, flowers, grains, herbs, hay, kohlrabi, leeks, lettuce, mushrooms, onions, peas, pork, spinach, squash, strawberries and much more.

You can also find some of the most mouth watering baked goods, wild berry jams and jellies anywhere. Fresh homemade ice cream, sugar corn, fresh made to order sandwiches and espresso, fresh meats and sausage, native handicrafts, jewelry and pottery, artwork, baskets, clothing, wildflower honey (delicious) as well as fresh flower bouquets are all waiting to be discovered

While we have to depend on the grocery stores for our fresh produce in the winter, and that quality is sometimes lacking, summer produce from the Tanana Valley Farmers Market is outstanding. Are you new to Fairbanks? This a great way for our new military families to sample a little bit of everything Fairbanks has to offer in one fell swoop.

Located on College Road, east of the Fairgrounds (Aurora Drive), the market is a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon.

All we need is another few days of this great weather and we'll be doing a little planting of our own.   I do like the new look too.

Jesse, you did jump out! Way to go and I really like it! What a beautiful scene. So, what kind of trees are those? I use to know I think but I'm afraid to guess.

How are you feeling? Much better I do hope. That last buckle was really scary. You take care of yourself...and kathy too!

Later in the rain~Deb

Jesse, I know what you mean about that 24/7 sunshine there in Alaska during the summer.  I must say that the summers are fast and intense up there. I noticed that she changed your picture -- looks good!

Jesse:  That sounds really great.  I sure wish I had something like that close by.  I have to make do with Krogers... which isn't all that bad... but nothing I am sure like a Farmer's Market.  Take care... thanks for sharing.

Darlin' - It won't be long, will it?

Deb - I'm glad you like it.  They are Birch trees.  I'm feeling quite a bit better... still doing therapy for my hand but it's getting there.  I can hold a pen now without too much trouble. :)

Michael - I heard someone today describe our summers as like being in a microwave.  It's short and sweet but a burst of heat and sunshine.  I wouldn't mind flipping seasons and having 9 months of summer and 3 months of snow.  That wouldn't be bad at all but I don't think that's in Alaska.

Karen Anne - We get some fresh produce in the grocery stores but precious little of it is home grown, so to speak.  There's lot of goodies besides just fruits and veggies at the market.  Come see us, we'll take you on a tour. :)

Just a few more days and the snow will be all gone.

We haven't seen snow all season long and hopefully we won't.  Enjoy the market.

Great post! I haven't been to a Farmer's Market in Anchorage - there is the market down by Ship Creek but I didn't see any garden items. Will have to look when I am up there. The apt complex the sweetie lives in has "pea patches" they allow people to grow in.

Hi Jesse & Kathy,
Yummy, makes my mouth water just reading about all this good stuff.  Sounds like a great variety is available.

Darlin' - Except for the 2" they're forecasting for tomorrow.  Good gracious.

Denise - I would miss not seeing any snow, but I could probably get used to seeing a little less. :)

Jo - I don't think I've ever been to a true Farmers Market in Anchorage either.  Wasilla used to have a killer market.  The downtown market is fun to walk through though.  We always manage to leave with something.

Cynthia - The market itself isn't that big but they really have a nice variety of items.  Personally I'm looking forward to some fresh zucchini and some fireweed jelly.  Yummy indeed.
