I get a tremendous amount of enjoyment out of gardening at my Pell City home. The rewards, far out weigh the dedication and effort it takes to grow beautiful flowers and vegetables. The simple pleasure of planting a lifeless seed in my garden and watching as it grows into a healthy producing flower and vegetable is immeasurable.
This summer's heat wave was brutal on my flower and vegetable garden. The endless days of excessive heat cut the yield short, and my Pell City home garden was extremely disappointing.
The National Weather Service reports that many records were broken across the state, from data collected through August 26, 2010. There was 50 consecutive days for temperatures 90 degrees or higher in my area. The prior record was 37 days in 1932 and 37 days in 2007.
With a break in the excess heat, I worked in the yard cleaning out my pots and dreaming about what I am going to plant next year in my Pell City home garden.
