Lynn, you're a planner.  I like that!  Maybe I can learn from you.

I tell you what: if I don't make it there again this year, I'll just plan a two week trip there for next year.  You just gave me a great second choice.  Thank you!  I would love to take a month off, but two weeks (actually 12 days is the most vacation I can take without having my business EXPLODE).

Maybe I'll go to Yellowstone instead.  Old Faithful has been on the same list with Alaska.

My tip, why not make a reserction online tonight? Your photos are spectacular. It's on my list too, haven't been there yet, but I expect to in 2009 or 10 at this point.

Mirela- I would suggest you get in touch with Jesse Clifton except that I read a post from him yesterday and he has been playing hotelier for weeks now with people visiting! So see, it's a sign that you need to go because everyone else is!! Take lots of photos Dear!

The tip is to go!   I was privledged to be a speaker there a few years ago, and had an excellent time!  Just go!

Oops!  I forgot to mention that I wanted to take a cruise tour, but I must admit that after reading all the suggestions I am wondering why I don't just get a plane ticket instead.

Sounds as if you've been everywhere except the Natural State of Arkansas.  Come here and learn the simple life!  lol

Do not forget your camera of course and know how to defend yourself from bears if you are off the beaten path. Not trying to scare you just trying to have you prepared.

Thank you for your suggestion, Barbara!  I have been to Arkansas.   I took a cross country trip with my two kids in 1995.  I started on the West Coast and finished on the East Coast.  Right before seeing Arkansas I was in Oklahoma City.  I visited that beautiful place (Oklahoma City is unbelievably beautiful!!!) only a week before the bombing.  My and my kids spent the day there visiting EVERYTHING.  When news of the bombing broke, I got this eerie feeling in the pitt of my stomach...  We saw that building only days before... 

I have seen the entire United States, including it's territories.   All except for Alaska.  ...Now you know why I have such an itch to go visit....

Susan:  I know you're supposed to play dead, but really...  who can actually do that?  My whole body would be moving on its own (shaking).  I'm not quite that adventurous.  I usually like going with others who are good at this type of thing, otherwise I stay on the beaten path....  I really DO value my life!

I was raised in a communist, iron curtain country.  We were NOT allowed to go ANYWHERE.  The happiest moment in my life was when I arrived in the USA.  To be FREE is indeed an amazing privilege.  I have tears in my eyes as I'm writing this. 

The human spirit seeks freedom.  Being able to go anywhere in the World and reading anything (our books were censored too) is indeed such an amazing opportunity.  For those born in this country, that privilege is taken for granted.  For me, it is still a privilege much revered.   I thank God every day for being here! 

I am a proud American.  People ask me which country I consider mine.  What a silly question.  Like a child who is mistreated by its biological parent, then adopted by loving parents...  there is no doubt who the REAL PARENT is:  the ADOPTIVE parent is THE PARENT!  Duh!!!

My son is a proud Marine officer, currently serving our country.  I am proud of him!  God Bless America!  I love this country!

Mirela, I think Alaska keeps calling my wife and I on the cruise up the coast from Vancouver B.C. So much nature to explore up that way. How refreshing would that be.

Hi Mirela,  I worked up in Alaska for three summers as a fisheries research biologist from the Yukon River up to Prudhoe Bay.  Alaska is a huge scenic frontier.  Some beautiful places to visit near Anchorage are the Kenai National Moose Range, Homer and Sitka.  If you can see Mount McKinley, you would experience seeing the highest peak in North America!  Depending on how much time you had, a ferry trip up the Inland passage through Juneau is also stunning! 

Dan, I was going to take a cruise, but after this post I am seriously thinking of just flying there and fudging it.  Just rent a car and visit solo (actually, with my daughter).  What do you think?  Would that be better than a cruise? 

Cameron:  I use that slogan before working out.  It works!  I might as well apply it to this Alaska goal.

Jim:  I will!  Any tips for me?  How long did you stay and where?

Lynda:  I have some minor technicalities to work out (closings, my office manager's vacation, etc).  It's getting done.

Hi Mirela,  Flying would be much faster.  Then you could rent a car out of Anchorage and check out all the nice sites!
