SUICIDE PREVENTION WALK

BIRMINGHAM AL

November 6, 2011

 

This Saturday, November 6th the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is bringing the Out Of The Darkness Community Walk to Heardmont Park on Cahaba Valley Road to raise money for research and educational programs to help understand suicide and save lives.

Walkers may register online until 11:45 PM the day prior, Friday November 5th, and anyone can register the day of the walk at check-in which begins at 1:00 PM.  The walk itself begins at 2:30 PM and a closing ceremony will be held at 3:30 PM. 

Some walk in remembrance of a loved one.  The Survivor Area is a place where you may bring pictures or other memories to share with others for the day, and there will be counselors on hand too.  Still more walk to help raise public awareness or to support family or friends that are struggling with mental illness and depression, or are dealing with those issues themselves. 

A goal to raise $120,000 has been set for this walk, and to date $85,730 has been already been pledged!  Click here for information on donations.
