Ah, Saturday is finally here! Everybody loves to get out on the weekend, so here’s some interesting things you can do today!
The Helen Keller Festival continues today.
All kinds of things are going on in Spring Park between 9 am and 5 pm..
· Be sure to take the kids by Imagination Station. Its free and they get to make their own artwork to take home.<!--[if !supportLists]-->
<!--[if !supportLists]-->· <!--[endif]-->Several artists are set up to demonstrate what they do. Maxine Williamson (jewelry and homemade paper), Susuan Parry (lampworked glass jewelry), and Bettye Kimbrell (quilter) will all be there to answer questions and talk about their crafts, as well as showing you how they work.
<!--[if !supportLists]-->· <!--[endif]-->Live music will be ongoing starting at 1 pm. The lineup is Hairy Knuckles (local band including Bill Lyons, Brian Earwood, Greg Rutland, and Keith Davis) @ 1, followed by Little Elvis @ 2, The Wildwood Ruminators @ 3, McKenzie Lockhart @ 4, and 3 Lanes Crossing @ 5 (I know these artists personally and they are AWESOME!).
<!--[if !supportLists]-->· <!--[endif]-->The music continues all evening. Angela Hacker and James LeBlanc are at 6, followed by Paul Thorn at 7:30 and Jimmy Wayne at 9.
There are famer’s markets going on all over the place today. Florence-Lauderdale County is in the pavilion on the corner of Chisholm Rd. and Cox Creek Parkway from 6am- noon. Jack-o-Lantern Farms across from the Holiday Inn in Sheffield is from 9-2.
History buffs are in luck today. Florence, Sheffield and Tuscumbia are all having guided walking tours today. The good news is that all of them are free. The bad news is that all of them are at 10 am, so you have to pick just one. The Florence tour is of the Walnut Street Historic District and starts at the UNA Tennis Courts. The Tuscumbia tour leaves from the corner of Sixth and Main Streets, and the Sheffield tour meets at Municipal Hall on N. Montgomery Ave.
This afternoon from 2-7, the Underwood-Petersville Volunteer Fire Department is having a fish fry. Plates are $9 for adults and $5 for kids 8 and under. This is a fundraiser for them, and it keeps you from having to cook dinner!
If you don’t want to get into the crowd at the Keller Festival, you can still enjoy live music tonight.
<!--[if !supportLists]-->· <!--[endif]-->The Rattlesnake Saloon has Joseph Baldwin playing country music from 6-10.
<!--[if !supportLists]-->· <!--[endif]-->The Trojan House has Kid Omega, Sweepers and Papertrail from 7-10 pm
<!--[if !supportLists]-->· <!--[endif]-->PJ’s in Muscle Shoals has Jukebox Jim from 8:45pm-1:30am
<!--[if !supportLists]-->· <!--[endif]-->Shane Wilson plays from 9-midnight at Swamper’s in the Marriot Shoals
<!--[if !supportLists]-->· <!--[endif]-->LaFonda Mexicana, Side Pockets, On the Rocks, and the Smokehouse all have bands scheduled tonight also, but not sure who is playing. The Smokehouse has a $5 cover charge.
So take your pick…and never say “there’s nothing to do in Florence!”
