The weather is beginning to be more cool. I call it "football weather". Whatever it is, the time has come to check your home for the fall and winter seasons. First the outside stuff: rake leaves, pick up limbs, clean gutters, power wash decks, and generally do your yard work. Also check the roof appearance and make sure there are no tree branches touching the roof. Now is a great time of year to reorganize the attic things. Most of us just pile it up there. You need to organize it occasionally. Mild weather is a great time to be up there. Check your hoses on your washing machine. This is one of the main causes for home flooding. Replace them when you notice any wear or after 5 years. The replacement cost is very low compared to the mess a broken line can cause. Check smoke detector batteries. Have your heating system inspected and winterized by a professional. Get a few extra filters for the return air vent. Now make a trip to the store and get some popcorn and hot chocolate and wait for the temperatures to start to fall.
