Jail Time for Fireworks!

I read this headline today on the NBC13 website for an article "Fireworks Safety Jail Time and Fines"

Of course it got my attention, (like I am sure it did yours!) and what I found was a reminder and call to safety on this Fourth of July weekend.

Here in Alabama, as with many part of the United States, drought-like conditions have reared their ugly head at some points in time over the past dew years. With this in mind, they were reminding us to leave the fireworks to the professionals.

As for the jail time and fines, before you decide to shoot off your fireworks this year, be sure to check with your local municipalities and see if fireworks are allowed. Some areas will fine or even throw you in jail for violating these terms.

These issues also got me thinking (since I have a couple of kids!) about firework safety. I searched and found the found the National Council of Firework Safety website which had an interesting an interesting video on the subject of firework safety as well as some helpful safety tips, such as...

  1. Only use fireworks outdoors
  2. Make sure you have access to water
  3. Never try to re-light a "dud" firework

These are only a few of the safety tips they gave. You can get the rest of the Firework Safety Tips here.

I also found this video here below. This IS NOT the video listed above, but is also a good resource.

They are going off tonight and its annoying to me (slightly).  I am not calling the cops though.

Chuck, I have been hearing them all week myself. I figure as long as they don't wake up my kids I won't get to fussy...

I will not make my own! lol

Happy 4th of July from Charlottesville!

Steve - This is an important issue, too many people get injured each year. The issue with the drought and fire works should be of concern I don't think they mixed well. Last Friday I saw an awesome fireworks display I was on one side of the Hudson River and the display was on the other.

Steve I'm always amazed at the people that lose their common sense this time of year!! We live in a big oak tree covered subdivision and one year the minister next door was shooting off big fireworks in our backyards - they could hit our homes or a busy road - all causing huge problems. Me - I just enjoy the Cities shows and stay safe - happy 4th

Wolfe...

I guess I should have read this post before hand. I'm out on Bond :)

TLW...ROAR!

Charles, at least not this year.... right?

Jennifer, watching fireworks over the water is such a site to see, I am sure you enjoyed it!

I don't do fireworks myself, but I do enjoy the shows.  I get really annoyed when I see irresponsible people playing with them.

Cyndee, I think a lot of us do loose our common sense during times like this. It would do us all well to bring our common sense with us when we celebrate.

Lovely, why does that not surprise me...

Stephen,I wasn't able to get the video to open, but we had some guys staying in a tent in our town last year that started a fire and burned down some expensive homes on the Michigan Lakeshore, I was wondering if it was these young men that may have been in the video.

Bob, seeing the results of irresponsible people is what had me shift from shooting to watching myself too

Duane, I checked the video again and it worked on my end. Maybe next time it will pick back up.
