I had a rough time with deer eating my roses this past year. I've ordered a "deer-proof" garden from Jackson and Perkins - one that is "gardening by the numbers" and specifically for sun exposure and deer repellent. Has anyone out there tried this type of gardening in N.W. Arkansas?
The soil where I live, (near Beaver Lake) is full of rock and clay, so digging presents a challenge. I normally use an "Arkansas pick" to break up the rock enough to put some topsoil in.
Aside from the J&P preplanned garden, I will be putting in wave petunias at my curbside flower beds, and red salvia for trimming some beds in the yard. The deer do not bother these. My mums from last year are already showing a lot of green at their bases, so come the end of this month, I will cut off the dead stems and let the mums start showing through!

Congratulations on joining Active Rain. This is a great professional networking and referral site. Our Team is working here in the Spartanburg / Greenville areas of South Carolina. We would be thrilled for any referrals you might send our way - or any referrals that we could send to you. Hope you enjoy this site as much as I do.
Thanks - I certainly will be happy to send you referrals if I hear of someone coming your way. Earlier this year, I sold a house through Brian Sutton of Keller Williams in Fayetteville, AR. He is a good guy.
Hi and welcome to Active Rain, a great site to network, share, learn, and have fun. Good luck. And if you ever need an agent in the upstate of South Carolina, please call me.
Welcome to Active Rain. It just gets easier after your first blog. Just write about what interests you.
Good to have you on Active Rain. This is a good site for gathering information and interesting to see what others are blogging about. Contact us if we can be of service to you. We would be happy to send you a referral or to take good care of any referral you would send to us.
Looks like Keller Williams in South Carolina enjoys having their company name on blogs - it is a good way to automatically be recognized on Google when someone types in a geographic area. The way I understand it, the more times your name and comany name appears, the higher the likelihood that your name will pop up.
Great idea - now, is anyone interested in gardening? Maybe I should be blogging on a different site. Since everyone is plugging real estate here, another of my virtual tours is:
