They don't build them like this anymore in Searcy Arkansas....and a vacation spot for Nutsy.

These pictures were taken on our main drag, Race Street in Searcy Arkansas, and show the detail on a house built in 1925! It's still standing and has magnificent detail for a home that would be considered modest in size today. I especially like the detail around the windows and soffitts. What craftsperson could do this detail today????

The way Race Street is expanding with commercial properties taking away the old family homes, I'll drive by one day and it will be zapped.....gone....so these pictures may someday be precious.

And while I was snapping pictures, I discovered this chimney! Guess who says he has just become a chimney sweep? Nutsy Wallenda, the certifried home inspector from Washington.

Now Nutsy is prone to exaggerate so he may be nothing more than a chimney climber. In that case, I've found a perfect play place for him! Nutsy, here's a chimney for you!!

I agree with you from the past with the craftsmanship in the older homes Barbara. Very good, and even though worn with time it is very good. Love that home you found for Nutxy.

Mrs Barbara,

I never exagerate. I am a certifried chimney sweep. I would be happy to clean that one. It will be one hundred dollars for the chimney and a thousand dollars for my airfare.

Nutsy S. Wallenda

Gary, thanks for visiting.  This old home has always held some fascination for me.

Nutsy, for me you need to do it for free........or else........I've been meaning to visit my attorney and work on the will........

What is that growing out of and around the chimney?  Its a bit scary!

Mrs Barbara,

I will put it on my gratis list. Thanks.

Nutsy

Hey Barbara, great old home.

Nutsy, you better watch out...never ask Godmoma to pay for your services!

Barbara, I do love the detail on the house and espeically around the windows, very nice. Nutsy won't need a ladder, just climb the vines like Jack in the Beanstalk

Hi Barbara: The condition of this home begs for a person to buy it and begin restoring it. I really love these old homes.

James, this may be what happens with vine-covered cottages.....

Nutsy, good thinking.

Tony, Nutsy took heed.

Mary, I like the window details too.  Nutsy would have a fieldday on that chimney.

Elizabeth, I'm afraid it is in the wrong area for restoring.  It's on the main drag, zoned commercial, and no one will spend the money to do it.

This building looks a lot older than 1925--maybe the front door dates from then but the rest is pure Italianate detailing from the 1870s or so, my guess. Good shots of the details!

E. L., that sounds like a good description of the detailing.  Perhaps that is why I like it.  It's different.  I think I studied Italianate in art but my memory of my art training is getting foggy!  Thanks for the comment.
