ARE YOU A COLLECTOR OF THINGS?

Why do we collect THINGS? We spend the first half of our lives collecting things and the second half trying to get rid of them! WHAT IS WRONG WITH US? I'm just as guilty as you are!

I collect vases, dishes, antiques and who knows what! Most are stored in my attic. Why? Why would a perfectly sane person do this? It doesn't make sense!

I can't take these things with me when I scale down to a smaller home. I've come to the conclusion that when I decide to retire, this is what I will do. I will call my daughter and grandchildren and let them take what they want, the remainder will be put in an estate sale! Maybe, I will recoup part of my money!

There are people who collect cars. That is an expensive collection! Jay Leno has so many cars that he stores them! Can you imagine??

Some women collect shoes or purses! I suppose some collect Jimmy Choo, Prada, Coach or Louis Vitton. These are high dollar items and they go in and out of style quickly!

What do you collect? Is your collection stored in your attic??

guilty as charged..I have baseball cards I refuse to get rid of , but probaly one day will throw away because of spaces needed.

I have a variety of things but they are not expensive things.  I call them collectibles, not treasures.  I must admit that the other day I spent $20.50 for some things that I didn't care about at all.  I did it to help this flea market booth owner.  Each weekend she goes to her little booth and stays there during the open hours. And she is 89 years old!!  She deserves to sell something whether I need the items or not.  I put them on ebay at less than I paid for them.  She's a lovely lady!

I have collected for as long as I can remember.  It all started with me spending time with grampa.  He worked on the railroad and would take em with him to pick up scrap steel to take to the junk yard to sell.  We now call them recyclers.

Anyway one thing led to another and last year I realized why grampa would work so hard collecting scrap.  He would sell it when things got tight.  I decided to get rid of stuff of all kinds and what do you know, by way of EBAY, I collected money instead of things.  worked out to be around $9,000 for junk.

Well maybe not real junk, just looked like it.  The best junk was out of an old finshing tackle box my grampa had given me.  I had about 20 wooden lures that brought about $2,800 with one being the most sought after collectible lures out there.  It, by itself, brought right at $1,900.

Boy, did I ever start cleaning out things and had a lot of fun remembering where stuff came from.  The next wonder will be a walking stick I got as a collectible when I climbed Mt. Fuji in Japan.  Who knows?

Thanks for the post.  Real good one.

Oh yeah!!

I've collected books, art and antiques over the years.  Then, when you reach middle age, you say "what am I gonna do with all this stuff?" and you do a 180 and decide to simplify.

Chris,

My ten year old grandson collects baseball cards.  He has thousands, he loves them.  I guess we all collect something!  Thanks for the response and have a great week!

Barbara,

That is so nice of you to help that lady!  I know she appreciates.  It is a good feeling when you help someone, expecting nothing in return.

Wayne,

Spending time with grandpa makes memories that are priceless!  You done well on ebay!  Those fishing lures are highly collectible!  I used to do ebay, don't have time now, but when I retire I will pick it up again.

Eric,

You are so right!  I have nearly reached the age of scale down and then I will have to get rid of all that I collected!  Thanks for the response and have a great week.
