Decades USA, an 800-acre theme park designed around rock & roll in the Eloy area, has gained preliminary approval from lawmakers yesterday, according to an article in the Arizona Republic by Matthew Benson. The revenue bonds neccessary for construction could get final approval as early as today according to the article.
According to the Decades USA website, a 2012 date is planned for opening the amusement park, which would serve as a living monument to Rock & Roll music, the artists and thrill seekers of all ages through an entertainment combination of shows and rides. The location between Phoenix and Tucson, in Pinal County, would be convenient for travelers as well as residents.
I hope the project progresses in a timely fashion--sure would be nice to drive an hour or so for a roller-coaster fix!
(UPDATE) The Arizona Legislature has approved certain tax measures to help move this project along--stay tuned!

Great news for Arizona Kent. As large as Arizona is it really could easily support something like this.
Well, it will be more than an hour's drive for me, but if the "Rolly Coaster" is good, maybe me and the missus will try it out. Hope you keep bloggin' and let us know how this project develops.

I'm hoping so, Jason & Deanna - sure would be fun! As with most fun things, the money's got to be there to make it happen.
Jim - thanks for stopping by. More than an hour for ya? Well, just pop onto a plane & I'll drive you the rest of the way when it opens. Supposed to have a wooden "Rolly Coaster" in the plans!
Sure would be nice to have something other than that "big whole in the ground" that we have up north & the overload of golf courses to bring more tourist business to the area. I think it would be great to have a family friendly amusement park in our own state. Think of the $$ it will bring to our economy. My parents were at Disneyland the day it opened... I will definitely plan to be at this opening. I hope you will continue with the updates, Kent. Thanks! - Calie
I love the "big hole in the ground" up north, but an amusement park would be a nice addition. Thanks for stopping by, Calie.
I agree the "big hole in the ground" is mystical, beautiful and tells a story of the land formation, American heritage and fortitude in Arizona. The theme park as I understand will have inside rides so it will be good year round, I think it will be great!
I'm with you on this, Karen - I just hope they've got some screamin' roller coaster planned! Thanks for stopping by.
