Prepare Your Home to Sell in this tough market. There is more competition than ever and the thing people are looking for is price - lowest price. So our goal is to make the buyer see the value of our home over the "fixer upper". However, if you prepare your home to sell, it will stand out among the crowd - maybe make a buyer think twice about the cheaper "fixer upper".
So here are some tips to prepare your home to sell. Clean, clean and clean. This means from top to bottom and inside and out. A clean home is a sign of a well-maintained home. Remember curb appeal. The outside of your home is the first thing buyers will see. It has to draw them in or they will drive on past. Make sure your landscaping is well trimmed and remove any yard debris. Keep your lawn mowed. Check the outside of the home and entry door for peeling paint and repaint as necessary. Get a new entry rug to liven up the entry way. If you have a fence, inspect it to see if there are any repairs needed. Check the roof and spouting for any issues and repair them. Clean the windows until they shine! Wash the driveway and sidewalk to remove dirt and debris.
Prepare your home to sell inside by cleaning again. Put away all clutter. Remember clutter eats equity! Reduce the pieces of furniture if needed to make the rooms look bigger. Remove the TVs from the bedrooms! Take down any and all family pictures. You want buyers to see this as their home - not yours. A fresh coat of paint will spruce up any room! Shampoo carpets, wax floors, wash curtains and clean blinds. Don't forget to clean the windows inside too. When you prepare your home to sell, it should not looked lived in. It should make people ask "does someone really live here?"
