Why I do what I do...To Feel Something More Powerful Than Me ....

My story is a short one, but very powerful for me.

Awhile ahousego, I was able to sell a beautiful home in a short period of time. Turns out the wife's best friend had had her home on the market for almost a year without one offer. The market wasn't all that bad at the time and it didn't make much sense. Her listing contract ended and she called me.

One step in the home and it became clear. It was a $750,000 home that was upgraded and decorated like a $150,000 home. It was only an okay floorplan and they were asking way too much money. Most of that could be fixed so I agreed to take the listing with the agreement they would let me and my stager change almost everything and we would significantly lower the price.prayer candle

That was hard for them as they had a custom home of their dreams in a neighborhood with ties already, that would be done in 60 days. The bank was already leaning heavily on them as everything was mortgaged in their current equity. Their five children asked them everyday if it was time to move yet, if they could have their toys out again, what school would they be starting at? This was a desperate and emotional situation. Many prayers were being offered by this family, their friends, and their new neighbors.

The pressure began to build. I wanted desperately to deliver but knew it would be a long shot. We're talking a 6,000 square foot home with 8 bedrooms, 5 baths, and no formal dining. Who in the world can I convince to buy this?

The second day on the market, we had three showings. One day later, we got a call. An offer was coming in. That's always good news. But the stunner is the story behind the offer.

houseThe buyers were a family with 5 kids of their own, 3 of which were special needs and had been adopted. The prior week they got a call that the wife's parents had been killed in a car accident, and the three kids still living at home would be given to her and her husband. There was money in the trust fund earmarked for the purchase of a new house, which they of course needed asap.

It was a cash, full price offer and the deal closed within 21 days, much to the happiness of everyone involved. This one I refused to accept any thanks for. All I did was put the sign in the yard. Someone more powerful and more all-seeing than me found a way for these families to come together. My mom asked when I was going to hang the SOLD sign. I responded, "I wish there was a sign that said 'sold by GOD, assisted by Elena Thurston'". I am so grateful I was there to witness it.

It humbled me. And I need that.

Wow Elena.  This sent chills down my spine.

Elena, this is a great story. It's this personal side of real estate which I enjoy so much and helps me put up w/ all the other ca-ca.

Colleen

I loved this story. Many times in our business, it clearly IS a 'God-thing' that makes it happen, and we just sit back in awe!

I totally agree with Rich ! This is a wonderful story ! Thank you so much for sharing and posting to the contest !

Elena...this is awesome.

Sometimes you put in a lot of work and everything goes wrong. No one gets paid and nothing works out.

And sometimes it's effortless.

It's the effortless times that I try to remember when things don't work out.

Blessings to you and the wonderful families in your story.

Elena, very inspiring. One day I had a home on the market and my buyer agent was putting in new brochures, a guy drove up and Betty ended up working with him. Every year we track where all our sales come from and at the end of the year, by this address, Betty had written God. I loved it.

Elena, that is a beautiful match!  Some things you just KNOW are heaven sent.

Elena, What a wonderful story!  It was definitely meant to be.  It is nice to hear stories that turn out good for everyone involved.

Thank you everyone, for taking the time to read and your comments.  Hope you all have a great week!

Elena-  Great post!  I had a home that went  under contract quickly because it was the niece of the man that built it that wanted the home. She had to sell her home first and that took some time, but it all came together and she was so thrilled to have that home. At settlement we all cried. She was so happy!

ELENA - It's great to read about families in need finding each other and making a dream into a reality.  This must have been amazing to witness.  I have sold a few homes where it was just the perfect fit also.  It's funny that when perfect fits happen, negotiations over price are in the background instead of the forefront.

Elena~God puts His hands out and ever so gently places people where they need to be at the right time. This is so beautiful and what a complete witness you are to that. Many blessings to you.
