Gilbert is a lovely suburb of Phoenix, Arizona and considered by many to be the best mix of affordability, low crime, family friendly, with easy access to downtown.
But it's still part of Arizona and summertime in Arizona means HOT HOT HOT! So what are the Top 5
Things To Do In Gilbert, AZ, even when it feels like an oven?
- As always, I start with food. You gotta check out Joe's Farm Grill. Great food with a retro feel, it's built in the middle of the organic fields that supply the yumminess. HUGE trees, misters, and lots of green grass make it comfortable even in the heat of summer. Get out of your cave, uh house, and enjoy the outdoors again.
- Gilbert has a brand new mall, the San Tan Village . My favorite thing to do there is take the kids to an early matinee movie at the Harkins Movie Theatre (the $4 kids combo is actually a really good deal), afterwards hit the water spray park at the east end. The kids love it and it burns off tons of energy. Just don't forget the sunscreen!
- Go for an evening stroll at the Riparian Preserve. With all of the beautiful plants, birds, streams, and waterlife, you forget you're in the middle of a desert. Afterwards hit the observatory for the star-gazing. Now that's a good time!
- Take the whole family to Bounce-U. Family Bounce Night is Tuesdays from 5-8 pm and it's a blast! Huge inflatable slides, obstacle courses, even basketball courts. It's a blast and a workout to boot.
- Speaking of workout, check out the climbing wall at the Freestone Recreation Center. Nothing like hanging out in cool air conditioning while scalings mountains and conquering fears. Makes for a great (and cheap) date night!

Elena, I own investment properties in Gilbert and it is nice to find out about the new mall and the Riperian Park. I will definitely check that out the next time I am out there. Thank you for the info.
Lisa, thanks for the comment. I was very happy to see the new mall finally get finished, and it's actually not even done. They're adding many more stores including an ice arena. The whole area was nicely designed and is giving the Gilbert residents some nice tax revenue.
Elena...I have never been to the Riparian Preserve...I've been in Chandler for 15 years and have never heard of it until you posted about it. Thanks, my two children and I are looking forward to this adventure. We have an enjoyable time at the museum's and this is just one more summer adventure to add to our list.
All the Best...........

oops, I was booted out by the server gremlin while making my comment above. Anyhow, that was me, in case you're wondering.

Elena, sounds like staying cool is the name of the game. Having spent a few weeks in AZ during the summer, I know how important it can be. Nicely done.
Elena: Sounds like your area has some fun places to visit. AND I bet the Family Bounce Night is a "highlight" for those cutie boys of yours!
Have you been to the observatory? We have one also in Chattanooga, and I have never been. Arizona must be a great place for an observatory.
And about those boys, are they twins?
Richard
Boy you were first! Love the pic with the kids!
Gilbert AZ area has some great things to do....and you are definitely the go to girl to find out more!
i've never been to AZ in the summer, but I was there once in the early spring...so I can only imagine what the summer's must be like.
Ellen - I like the idea of a riparian preserve in the middle of the desert. That would be my choice destination.
Ellen..this is the perfect guide for a family wondering"what can we do and what can we afford?"
I like it - short and sweet - and fun for the whole family - thanks for the info.... next time I'm over that way I will keep these in mind.
