Are you feeling the heat? Looking for some late summer family fun in the desert? Polar Ice in Gilbert Arizona is opening this weekend after more than three years of being on the drawing board. The East Phoenix Valley has a new opportunity for hockey, figure skating, family fun and sports. The grand opening this weekend will feature some Phoenix Coyote players.
The facility is an $8.5 million facility near Greenfield and Ray roads, at 2305 E. Knox Road in Gilbert. The state of the art facility offers two ice rinks, 10 locker rooms, a hockey pro shop, a restaurant and 800 rental skates ready for renting. Planned uses are youth and adult hockey leagues, figure skating, public skating and birthday parties.
In addition to this new Gilbert facility the Polar Ice enterprise has other facilities in Chandler and Peoria. They picked Gilbert as a destination as the place to add another facility because Gilbert already has a number of family activities which seem to be a magnet drawing families to the area. The facility is built in Crossroads Park, which has soccer, baseball and football fields and is frequented by families on a routine basis. The Chandler site is already a well established ice-skating center so it is felt that the Gilbert facility will attract beginning skaters and hockey players.
