A Day Trip from Mesa, Arizona - Arizona's Painted Desert

Last year I shared several areas of interest within a day's ride from Mesa, Arizona. I promised to share some of the photos of the Painted Desert. I'm finally keeping my promise.

Located just about four hours north and east of Mesa, Arizona, the Painted Desert can be reached
Arizona's Painted Desertfrom the I-40 east of Holbrook, Arizona. As you enter the Park from the North end,

you will be treated to panoramic views of amazing colors and shapes. Seriously, the scenery is literally a huge canvas of multiple colors, shadows, and light.

Arizona's Painted Desert

I've just started to print and then hang some of my photos in our Show Low retreat. I'm sharing just a few of the Painted Desert in Arizona. Enjoy!

That's it for this session.....I hope you enjoy them as much as I've enjoyed sharing them.

You know, I have driven past this park numerous of times just near Holbrook on my way to Denver, but have never stopped.  What beautiful pictures!

Cheron Lange

Cheron, well worth the time to take an hour and drive through this beautiful Park....glad you enjoyed! ;-)

We have seen some of the areas but this is quite dramatic. I guess seeing the green in Michigan this time of year makes your colors stand out more in my mind.  Thanks for sharing you photos.

Teri - What an amazing place.  This does make a wonderful subject to paint.

Teri - what an amazing natural wonder, and so appropriately named. The colors are incredible and, I suspect, can change dramatically with the sun. I am looking forward to our brief trip to Sedona in late July.

Jeff

Terry, our deserts are especially colorful. Lots of red - especially in the Sedona area and the other parts of north and east Arizona. ;-)

Jennifer, it's so difficult to actually capture, but I have framed the first one. I might have to have some larger prints made. ;-)

Jeff, the sun and the resultant shadows made it enjoyable and challenging to capture the views. Sedona is spectacular as you probably know. So many beautiful areas in Arizona - as well as the other areas of our country. ;-)

Teri - The pictures don't even look real - unbelievable gorgeous!  For me - it would be a profound, reflecting visit if i were there - what an experience to look out upon THAT!

I haven't been to Mesa in years, but I'm hoping to go back out there with my best friend next year. It's such a gorgeous area! Thanks for sharing!

Lady in Red - Great photos... I didn't visit Mesa but I did go to Sedona recently.  I am glad I did because your area of the country is simply spectacular.  My only regret is that it took me 40 years to get there.  Keep posting those photos - like to keep my vacation memories alive.

Teri,
Your photos are wonderful.  I hope to see all this for myself someday.........

Hi Teri: No wonder you like the color red! It's all around you.

I've never really been to the painted desert. I did make a point of stopping at the Grand Canyon once when driving through Arizona, but it was raining so I just sat in the car at an overlook and ate cold weiners. I think it's a shame that people drive through on the Interstate and miss so much of the beauty that Arizona has to share.

Leesa, isn't it awe inspiring? Capturing a photo of THAT is difficult at best. ;-)

Kat, Arizona is still as beautiful....

Ryan, I have some of Sedona too. ;-)

Cynthia, thank you - hope to meet YOU someday. ;-)

Elizabeth, ewwww, a cold weiner? How yucky....I've yet to go to the Grand Canyon as an adult - at which time I will definitely shoots some photographs to share....;-)  I'd never thought of being surrounded by red....good thing I have friends that can 'splain this to me. ;-)

Teri  Every one of those is a Wordless Wednesday candidate - abdolutely beautiful photos.
