Budget cuts due to the slowdown in the national and local economies have created the necessity of reducing library hours at 15 Phoenix, Arizona public library locations as follows:
11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and 9 a.m. to 5
p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
Eight libraries – Burton Barr Central, Cesar Chavez, Cholla, Ironwood, Juniper, Mesquite, Palo Verde and Saguaro – are open from 1-5 p.m. on Sundays.

I am afraid we are going to see more of this type of thing until the economy turns around.
Teri, I find this very sad. I'm a huge reader and have always spent lots of time at libraries. When we moved to a new community one of the first things me and my children did was to visit our local library.
Hi Teri,
Sorry to say, we've seen the same thing here too. It breaks my heart, yet I'm wondering if this can be the time for volunteers to step up to the plate to make a difference!
Hi Teri....mmm I guess you'll have more time to read :O)) And so will the Staff.
Cheers, have a great Sunday !
As sad as that is that they are having to do that, I think it is better they cut back like we do as tax payers rather than try to just get more money from the tax payers to pay for the extra hours.
Hi Teri: That's too bad. :( You know, they're talking about cutting our mail delivery, too. Eliminating Saturday mail.
Terry, it sounds like it's happening everywhere....
Marchel, the library was always my favorite place to hang out as a kid. I would take home the maximum books allowed. I would still enjoy just sitting and enjoying the books - if there was more time in my life. ;-)
Lynda, I think we'll find more of that happening. There are many retirees or stay at home moms who would probably enjoy spending time in the library. ;-)
Fred, thanks - have a great Sunday yourself. ;-)
Todd, I completely agree.....;-)
Elizabeth, I've heard that too....
