I-17 Construction North of Loop 101 Begins

The improvements to I17 north of Loop 101 has begun. This construction impacts many residents such as homes in Anthem, Tramonto, Sonoran Foothills, Amber Hills and Carefree Crossings.

Overnight Restrictions at Happy Valley Road -- June 4 through 8

Work has started on projects to improve I-17 north of Loop 101. The first project includes constructing new traffic interchanges at Jomax Road and Dixileta Drive .

This week, the speed limit on I-17 was reduced to 45 mph from Happy Valley Road to Carefree Highway . The reduced speed limit will remain in place for the project's duration.

Anticipated Closures:
-- June 4 through June 8 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., one lane will be restricted on I-17 in each direction.

-- June 4 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., the northbound on-ramp at Happy Valley Road will be closed.

-- June 5 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., the southbound off-ramp at Happy Valley Road will be closed.

This series of temporary restrictions will establish the construction work zone to protect workers and the traveling public. Following this work, the I-17 shoulders will be restricted. Drivers should slow down and pay attention for changes in traffic flow.

Construction Set to Begin June 8 on
I-17/Carefree Highway (SR 74) Traffic Interchange

Travelers on I-17 will soon notice construction activity near I-17 and Carefree Highway (SR 74) as ADOT prepares for construction of the new traffic interchange.

ADOT plans to keep two lanes of traffic open in each direction during peak periods throughout construction of these projects. At times, the freeway may be closed for up to 15 minutes at a time, but those closures will generally occur overnight.

All I-17 improvement projects from Loop 101 to Carefree Highway are scheduled for completion in 2009. Once improvements are underway to Carefree Highway , construction will begin on freeway widening north to Anthem Way .
