Some folks don't blog for business....

This article appeared a couple of days ago in the Arizona Republic. Now before I discuss it - why are most Real Estate Professionals blogging on Active Rain? At some level or another, gaining exposure and additional business likely plays a role for a vast majority of Active Rain participants. There is nothing wrong with that. Get your thoughts out there, how you do business and maybe prospective clients will contact you to represent them! And lenders - blogging on AR is a great way to market yourself to Realtors. But this is nothing new!

Some folks blog for different reasons, as it relates to real estate. The article linked above suggests that there are two distinct types of real estate blogs. Those that suggest the housing market is heading for collapse and those that try to squelch that notion. Blogs with scary names such as housingpanic.com and housingdoom.com are referenced. These sites focus on the pending crash within the housing market. If you read the article, in some cases it seems that some of the authors of those sites are bitter about what did or didn't occur in their lives in relation to the housing market.

Now AR, in my opinion, consists of many blogs that REALLY DON'T FIT into either of the two aforementioned categories. I don't see a bunch of people blogging about the utter collpase of the housing market. I also don't see a bunch of Realtors painting an unrealistic, rosy picture of the market, either. I see numerous real estate related blogs that serve to DISCUSS, REPORT, QUESTION and INTERPRET.

What kind of blogs do you see on AR?

Thanks for Reading :)

Kaushik, I agree with you.  In fact, you can add to that, I see many blogs on AR that are giving information and help to other AR members...a sharing of information amongst ourselves, for the betterment of all.

I think you see a variety of topics covered on AR. I feel we're all here to network, increase our business, and to help others succeed.

I agree we are here to share our experience and learn from others as well as to network for referrals.

AR is a source of inspiration, education, motivation, and more. You find posts on regions, marketing, a few jokes along the way and "MeMe" information about AR members. There is something here for everyone!

I concur with all of the above.  You can find what you're looking for or you can offer what you want to achieve.  That's pretty awesome.

Great article thanks for sharing it.  I think they did miss a big segment of what real estate blogging is about today but that's OK.  It made a better story for them to break it out into RAH, RAH REALTORS®  and negative bubble bloggers.

There's a diverse group of posts at AR.  Most are not about doom & gloom.  Even when Broker Bryant (or anyone else for that matter) writes about problems in his market area, he doesn't pose it as doom and gloom.  He talks about a problem going on at this time.  So many journalist tend to be about drama.

Kaushik....  I agree as so many others have mentioned. Education is so key. Sure, we will be adding our own opinions to a blog, but some have a habit when writing, that they make it sound like the bible per sel. Thanks for sharing this.   PS... negativity sells, right?  Sad, but true.

Kaushik, for the most part, it seems to me that AR has become an effective support group for those in the industry.  On the localism side, educating the public is prevalent, although some agents and lenders still seem to see it as just a place to post  blatant ads.

I blog at active rain for business, but not fully in the way you might think,  Active rain is ok, about 95% of who reads a active rain blog is Real Estate professionals, and that is ok, even if it is posted to localism the numbers do not improve all that much.

Anyway, I blog at active rain to help promote my REW blogs, they bring in the business.  On their own they place well, with AR sending a little more link juice their way, they are unbeatable.

Kaushik, The answers you've received from this post are witness to the fact that both the bloggers of AR and the real estate industry itself are wild, wonderful, diverse, difficult, exciting, and exasperating at times. So why do we blog? Learning, teaching, marketing, networking, motivating, and having fun along the way. I dare say, each of us has found something we didn't know about AR or blogging or our fellow members or even some aspect of the real estate industry until we spent time here. At least that is what I tell my hubby when he asks if I ever plan on sleeping this year. Good post.

Good question Kaushik - I tend to stay in the Stagers groups and I see, information, business building, idea sharing, conflict resolutions, and commiseration on things that boggle us all - inevitably I find answers to questions that I've had through someone else's experience.  This is a remarkable place to be at in the life of a real estate professional.  It's a free flow of information that I feel fortunate to be a part of.  I only hope it remains as such.  (I see Yvonne right there above me too - saying the same kind of thing - hi Yvonne!)

Hi Karen. Don't you find Kaushik's blogs invigorating and eye opening? I always check on him. :)

I definitely blog for business, but I have found Active Rain to be a great source of networking, and camaraderie.

Yes Yvonne -when I can break away from my comfort zone of staging groups Kaushik is one guy I like to keep up with - Kudos Mr. Sirkar!

We blog because we can...

Thought I'd go for the profound but simple answer :)
